Having shooting issues with my deer rifle....its a Remington 7600 pump action 30-06.....just wondering if anyone owns this gun or has ever had any patterning problems with one on the range?

I don't have a 7600, but I had a Rem. 760 (that was before they changed the model number). I bought it in 1973, and gave it to my son, somewhere around 82. I never had a problem with it and he still uses that old gun, it's also a 30-06.

I looked at a new 7600 a while back, and the trigger pull on it was terrible. I read an article about the 7600s' and it stated you couldn't adjust the trigger pull, other than that, I don't know of any problems.

My friend has a 7600 in 308 win and with the 168gr BST we worked up for it, it will put three shots under a nickel at 100 yards. As far as I know he has never had a problem with his.

the 7600 I own is a very good gun. It is not a tack driver like my bolt actions, but will give hunting type groups all the time. If you are looking for it to give you sub moa groups.....it wont. I consistently get 1.25"-1.5 groups @ 100 yrds. Good enough for me to harvest countless deer and a boar on the run in Tenn this year.

Well, you can keep practicing or you could try a bolt action rifle, maybe you will have better luck. Try maybe a Remington M700 in .270. It might shoot better than your current rifle.

I also have an older model 760 (.308 Win.). It shoots decent groups out to 200 yards. It won't win any shooting matches but is fine for my hunting needs that I use it for. The only problem that I have had was a broken firing pin. I think a new pin was around $2.00 but shipping was over $5.00. It was pretty simple to replace.

My 760 and my Dad's 7600 worked just great. I gave mine up as it weren't the greatest action for a handloader lookin' to squeeze the ultimate out of a cartidge's performance. Dad liked what he got with minimum loads so kept his.
There is a thing about the construction that sometimes causes trouble. The bolt locks up in a barrel extention. instead of the receiver. Once in a while an extention comes loose, and doesn't hold the barrel at the same angle viz a viz the receiver, then the rifle throws shotgun size patterns. Short of a rebuild there ain't much that can be done to correct it. It seems to occur more with the 740/7400 self loaders, as you can't treat them gently between rounds.

You didn't give us very much information. Is it scoped? Have you checked to see if everything is tight? Have you tried different brands of ammo and bullet weights. Have you cleaned it? Iis this a problem that just started or did it pattern from the beginning?

I have a 760 and a 7600. They both are quality guns and perfect for hunting.

The best groups I can get consistantly are about 2"...but that suits me fine for hunting purposes.

I really haven't played around with ammo too much to improve groups.

One the most common problems with the Pump Rem's is the for-arm rocks a bit,so if you change your grip you will bounce all over the place.The first Big gun I ever owned is a 7600 Rem Gamemaster in 30-06 and it shoots great 1-2 inch groups @ 100 yds with rem Core-loks 180's.
Try resting the gun in between the pump and the reciver(hold on to the for-arm)this will give it a much steadier rest.Also don't rest it on the barrel that causes problem also.
