Where you been, boy?;) This recall notice has been on Remington's web site for, oh, I don't know how long. My trusty 710 works just fine and I'm quite happy with it.

Tell me more of this happiness xd9x19! I mean this sincerely. I am looking at a second rifle and I am looking at all affordable options. I have heard nothing but negativity from this site on the 710 and no owners reviews. I have owned 2 different remingtons and were happy with the operation of both of them, I have a hard time believing that remington would continue to produce and sell an inoperable, innacureate rifle. WHat are your experiences with this model? EJ

EJ if I was looking for a new rifle it would be the charles daly hands down I own 2 of these and both are tack driver at 100 yards of the bench 3 shot groups of .75 with factory ammo. When you buy these gun it comes with a lifetime warr. you break it they will fix it, the feald grade run $379.95 the sup. grade runs $439.95 both are build on mouser action great gun.

Look at the Ruger M77 MK II, Walmart sells them for about $450. They are great guns for the money and the intrical rings and bases are one of the best designs out there. My Rugers and all of my friends and families Rugers are all very accurate. My 300 WSM will shoot a .5" at 100 yards. Ruger also has very good customer service.

I'm happy with my 710 (.30-06), although I've only had it for one deer season so far. I haven't spent a lot of time testing various ammo, but so far Federal 150 grain Sierra Gameking ammo has provided the best results. See the pictures below (the circled shots are "throw aways" I shot while adjusting my scope).

If I could change one thing about the 710, it would be the effort it takes to close the bolt. It's a little stiff when trying to close and that may be due to the lock-up system that it uses. I can't speak to things like trigger pull and the supposedly pressed-barrel design (as opposed to a threaded barrel that can be changed if you should shoot so much as to wear it out).

I get to deer hunt maybe 12 days a year and I wasn't willing to spend $750 to $1000 for a rifle and scope that I would not shoot very often. I looked at a Savage 100 or 111 package gun before I bought my 710, but I preferred the rounded forearm of the 710 to the more squared-off stock of the savage.

How many shots did it take you to sight it in? The 710 never hits the same area twice! Even in your picture you never hit bullseye. I had to sight one in for a friend this past season and that gun was like a girl, to hot or to cold. For the money the savage is a much better gun. with a Simmons 3x9x50 two shots it was dead on at 100 yards. I had over 400 savage 243s,270s,30-06s,300s, etc.. and they are all gone in 5 months I have 20 710s never sold one. Remington makes great guns but the 710 ain't one of them. I shoot a Remington 700 270 bolt-action and it could be the best gun I've used yet.
