Which one now? I like the 1 B stainless laminated in 25-06,it has a 26" barrel, but the 1 V in 25-06 has regular type bases instead of the 1/4 rib, only it comes with a 24" barrel and doesn't come stainless laminated.I geuss I have to trade some thing.Seems like alot of troubles originate from the 1/4 rib mount.Any feed back to help would be great

In 10 years I have never had a problem with mine. What problems are you refering to?

Some say the quarter rib heats at a different rate than the barrel and distorts with barrel torque.

I havejust purchased the 4th Ruger #1 and it is a beauty. Its chambered in 30-06 everyone I have owned has shot well . One had a horrendous trigger though it was a 1B this old 1b has a great trigger and seems to be built a lot better then the new ones I have been looking thru. Its an early 70's model. Now I have to scope it and take it to the range

I dont know if all Number 1's chambered in the bigger calibers shoot well but I can not complain about this one. Other than a little trigger work, it's factory stock right down to the hard piece of rubber Ruger calls a recoil pad.[8D]

It does produce a bit of recoil though and shooting it from the bench for groupsis sometimestough.

Here's a pic of a typical standing/shooting stix group......

....and from a bench with 3 shot groups[:-].......

I've only had one #1 which I still have. It's a limited run 45/70 stainless/green laminated stock..I picked it up slightly used. The guy wanted it just to work up loads for the 45/70. Since the #1 has a strong receiver that's the rifle he chose. Before trading for it I shot a few rounds through it.Three shots almost touching (about 3/4"group @ 100yds). It shota bit low for me but they were there.I have a box of his reloads left. I thought he had marked what load it was inside the box. Unfortunately he didn't and I haven't seenor talked to him in a couple of years. From my experience with this #1 I would recommend one
Plus It's a Ruger

I had a No. 3 in .22 Hornet. It would cluster 10 rounds inside a 50' rimfire bull at 100 yards. The trigger was the nicest out of box trigger I ever had. Then I started usin' it for hide huntin'. Do you know a southpaw can't get a cartridge in the chamber under a low scope? The No. 1s have the same problem.
