Benelli Nova

I've never really heard anything bad about this particular shotgun (except maybe that the forearm rattles a bit too much). For the Nova owners, how do you like yours?

RE: Benelli Nova

I love MIne and you can tighten the forarm so the rattle will almost disappear. It has honestly been the most impressive gun i have ever seen for reliablity it looks almost like new after 4 years or more of abuse and tons of rounds through it....I have a few buddies that feel the same way too.

It's nearly all made out of plastic.[:'(]

I love mine the only thing I would change about mine is I wish I have gotten it in camo. otherwise it is a fine firearm. smooth and reliable action. true it is made from a polymer plastic and the stock and receiver are one piece with aluminum inserts in the receiver all the working parts are metalic.

Mine has been fired exactly twice - I put the mecury recoil reducer in it and wanted to see how it felt. I don't know why, but if I'm going shotgun hunting I always take the 870 my Dad bought in 1955 (used). I'll probably sell the Nova.

I love my Nova, if I had to do it over again I would still buy the Nova. It is probably the most weather resistant gun you are going to get , and it has more features than the 870. I took the rattle out of mine and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Hey all- This is my first post on here, but I too have a Nova and love its durability, easiness to take down and clean, but how did you get that rattle out of there? Thanks!

Gundigest 06-16-2005 08:45 PM

RE: Benelli Nova

There are two allen screws one on each side of the forend. Just tighten them down and most of the rattle will go away.

I have one. I got it for turkey season and I love it! Best turkey gun I have. I killed 5 with it as close as 5 ft and out to 50 yards. Great Gun!

I bought my Nova a few months ago, and if you read the previous posts, I had some trouble with the ejection on it, simple fix was to install the missing part the place I bought it from neglected to do. I've shot quite a few boxes of 3 1/2" turkey loads out of it, and it's a great gun, andthe patterns it produceswith a Comp N Choke .658 in it are just awesome.

RE: Benelli Nova

Has anybody noticed a slight drag when cycling the action on theirs? I looked at mine and noticed the forend bends in just a bit...must be the molding process... and when cycling it drags on the outer edges of the receiver..not a problem but not as smooth as my 870 or 1300 for that matter. Other than that, and the fact it's a little thick to carry with one hand around the receiver I love it. Sold my standby mossberg 500 truck gun for it and thats saying alot in my opinion.

What are the features that the Nova has the 870 doesn't?

Well, for one you can look like a first rate space cadet with the new age styling of a nova compared to the no nonsense look of an 870

The Nova does fit its look nicely. Maybe put on a helmet and people will think you are a alien

RE: Benelli Nova

I looked at my Nova and the fore arm doesn't rub at all on the receiver. I am unsure were you are talking about exactly. I worked the action on mine several times.

IMO the action is smother then an 870, 500 or any other pump gun I have handled...it is one of the reasons I got a Nova. Perhaps your Nova has a defect. I would contact Benelli and see what they say.

Ya thats kinda what i figured too. That seems like everyone's reasoning when they buy the Nova over the 870. I wonder if benelli put that phrase on their website or something

Gundigest 08-06-2005 08:52 AM

RE: Benelli Nova

The Nova has a magazine disconect that the 870 does not have, the nova has a rotating locking bolt and is spring assist. When I push the slide release the slide goes back by itself almost all the way open. The trigger assembly and bolt can easily be taken out using only the magazine cap. Mine forenddoes not rub on the action at all.

UT, I have duck hunted with people who have black eagles and compared it against my 1187 and now golds and auto5's. I think alot of people love the fact it says benelli. Makes them feel ritzy and Euopean.:D

Nah, just joking, kinda. I like the black eagle. I didn't like the fact they didn't like skeet loads like estates. And kicked a tad harder than my other shotguns. I wouldn't mind having one, they just got to lower thier price some. I don't like the Nova's styling however. Just personal opinion. Also don't like the fact they don't cater to the sluggunners. From what I seen, very limited on cantelever barrels. Might be wrong.

RE: Benelli Nova

Yah i don't have anything against the Nova's just curious. I kinda thought the same thing about buying the name, not the gun. I'm sure they're alright, just partial to the 870

I have a Nova and an 870. Mine has seen its share of muddy cold nasty days and always works great. Easy to tear down in the field if you dump into the mud or something. Very very fast pump action for those times when you have lots to shoot at!

Only downside I can think of is the weight... I grab my 870 for pheasants. The Nova is just too much to carry for long walks, IMHO.

My .02

Just want everyone to know Bass Pro in Baltimore has novas with cantilever and smoothbore on sale for 500 dollars and plain ole novas smoothbore 26" 12ga for 300 dollars.

Fully rifled 870/wood combos and smooth for 370. Good sale.

Tighten down the two allen screws on the forend and 95% of the rattle will go away.

Kowalski,
I have shot all the 1200's and 870's for many years and must say the nova is just a better gun. And no the work Benelli has nothing to do with my opinion. If you plan to shoot 3 1/2" there is a thump on both ends. Good Luck. :)

I've owned two of them ,oneI bought (my mistake ) and one was taken in on a trade . Personally just didn't care for the feel of the gun and had a problem with one . Thier customer service was nothing to brag about which further turned me off . They work ,but give me a 870 anyday .

I bought my Nova two years ago as a back up tomy Benelli M1 Field Super 90 when I started going to South Dakota for pheasants. My M1 worked perfect so I never used the Nova in SD. However, I have used it for trap, doves, waterfowl and loaned it out to others for game farm bired hunts. It is an excellent pump that is highly reliable. I would recommend and have done so to many. Never noticed a rattle in mine. Oh yes, the price is perfect for any hunter to have one around.
