Burris Scopes
 

I have a Burris 3x12x44 Signature Series scope on back order for a while and am starting to get a little impatient. What do you think the difference would be if I went with 4x16x44. I do alot of hunting in the mountains where the range could go from 100yds to 400....not that I am going to take a 400 yd shot.....300 about it for me.

I have a Burris signature 2-8x40. It has good optics, clear and lets in a lot of light, but I quit using it because I hate the Posi-lok. I think it is a piece of junk. It is a pain it the butt to sight in, you tighten the posi-lok and it moves the cross hairs. From now on I will by the Elite 4200s.

As for the powers you are looking at, I think both are too high. I can shoot a deer at 300 yard with a 4x, going that high in magnification reduces the amount of light the scope lets in and adds weight. I personally would go with an Elite 4200 in 2.5-10x40.

fixed optics have better clearer glass in them. i am goin with a leupold 6x36 on my gun. and when i get another 400 ima go with a 8x44 (i think thats it) on my 300SM

still, adjustable optics wiegh slightly more and the glass isnt as clear AND the fixed optics draw in more light at dawn/dusk. I have used multi 3-9, 3-16, 6-24 scopes in my 20years + hunting and i think i am done with them. No real use for'm. Checkem out at your local gun shop. let me know what you think. I love my new fixed.

If I was going to get a fixed power I would not get more than a 4x, more than that and it is hard to see the close ones. If you get a Burris try to get one with out posi-lok. 9 or 10 power is the highest I would go.

Fixed power scoped of equal quality to a variable don't have any clearer or brighter optics in them..... They just have fewer lenses for the light to be reflected off of thus allowing more light to reach your eye.



As far as the original question I would definetly not get the 4-16X for general hunting applications. IMHO there isn't enough low end magnification and way too much high end magnification.

You might try to see if another retail store or internet store has the 3-12X in stock that you want.

Go for the 4x16, it will be a better choice for the kind of hunting you describe.
