most of the time I either take a talk-about or a handheld cb radio.they were gifts from my wife.I also have a leg problem.the left one just goes away and I crash and burn a lot..never had a cell phone.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I think a whistle is a great idea! Sometimes, my cell-phone's reception leaves much to be desired.... I do carry a 2-way radio, but batteries & the chance of dropping and breaking it could defeat the purpose.

Thanks, Mudfish2!

All of these are great ideas! If a cell will work in your area,by all means carry one.I hunt in several different areas around my home, and
since I am usually up and gone way before the family gets up,I have a way that I communicate my plans to them.I picked up a small dry-erase slate board(about 24"x24"),and mounted it outside the kitchen door, under the carport.I attached a zip-lok bag to it to keep a marker in,so it's always there. When i get ready to take off,the LAST
thing I do is to jot down which stand or area that I will be in.This
way,if I don't show up,my wife can notify a buddy of mine, and he knows where to look for me.WORKS FOR ME!
Two other item that you should alwats have with you,are a good, sharp knife, and some way to start a fire(just in case).A good motto to live by is...ALWAYS BE PREPARED,AND EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.
Later friends.... whack

All good ideas. Better safe than sorry. These days I never hunt alone and keep in touch with who I'm hunting with useing two way radios. It's saved my bacon once already.

Relive the thrill of your first hunt, take a kid hunting !
