Default Does anyone know.......

how one could volunteer to be a partner to a handicapped hunter. I do not know why but I have this need to not only introduce my kids to the glory and beauty of hunting, but to partner up with someone who needs a partner in my area. Are there any orginizations that could hook me up with a partner in my area?

Hey, Tazman!

I'm not familiar with your state, but the Army Corp of Engineers sponsor hunts at state parks for the disabled in Missouri. They could always use volunteers for assisting disabled hunters. They need guides, trackers, field dressing deer and so on. Maybe you could contact them in your state, and ask them if they have a similar program!? If they do, you're in for a good time!

You could also try Buckmasters American Deer Foundation, who have a disabled hunter's program. They have many disabled hunters contact them, looking for hunting opportunities. They offer all types of hunts to the disabled, not just deer hunts. Here's the link: http://www.badf.org/disabledhunters.html

David Sullivan, the director of BADF's Disabled Hunter Program, has also set up an on-line community for disabled hunters. If you need to contact him, you can reach him there. Plus, maybe you could meet a disabled hunter from your area on the board. If you were so inclined, you could offer a hunt to that person!? Your call.... Here's the link to the board: http://communities.msn.com/Huntingan...sageboard.msnw

If you don't have any luck there, feel free to contact me and I'll send you some links to other organizations that may need volunteers.

Thanks for volunteering! If it wasn't for folks like you, I might have never been introduced to hunting!

Chairman I sent an email to the buckmasters head honcho and also posted up on the board you gave the link for. I was really surprised to see that Va. has no disabled hunters orginizations. May have to work on that one.

Hey, Taz!

I know what ya mean - I'm thinking of starting a disabled hunter organization in Missouri, myself. There's a lot of programs in the state to take advantage of. My concern is that if "we" don't participate, they may be pared back, or eliminated, for lack of participation! Some programs are overloaded with applications, and some are lacking participants. I think the main issue is getting the info in the right hands. You can build a better mousetrap, but....

I'd like to set up my property so I could offer some hunts for disabled hunters, some day. I've got friends that have offered to help set it up - cut trails, set up permanent blinds and so on... It's gonna take a while, but I feel it would be worth it. I want to give back what I've been so freely given.

I saw your post at the disabled hunter community - you da' man!

Chairman I have already gotten two emails for some guys that are interested, one of them already has a 200 acre lease, but wants to hunt other property.

nwla/whackmaster I will post up the offer here, I kind of thought if anyone was interested they would reply to this, but what the heck, I will post it up.
