Adapted Equipment?

Any of y'all care to share about any adapted equipment (bought or custom built) you use for hunting?

The only "adapted" equipment I use is an all-terrain wheelchair (Terra-Trek) - so far.... I am in the process of designing something to load/carry my wheelchair while I'm on my ATV, though. I'll keep you updated, if you're interested.

Also, I know of someone that's hearing-impaired looking for something to help him hear better while hunting. I'm not aware of anything that wouldn't amplify the gunblast at the same time - not a good thing. Anybody know of something that's available?

Pic of my Terra-Trek wheelchair - made by Everest & Jennings. It's not an easy chair to find. I finally found one - in Canada!

LOL Yeah, you can't see them very well, but those are some HUGE knobby tires on the rear! You should see the mud &quot;fits&quot; my wife has, when I come inside after some serious scouting trips...especially during &quot;damp&quot; weather! I just LOVE that look on her face, when she sees me coming. <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

I get that too chair LOL,, do they make a wider drive wheel for that chair ? and was wondering how you get your weapon out ,on your lap,? didnt see a gun or bow rack on it . hmmmmm got my head going ,iam not in a chair but thinking of ways of putting storage on them for other people , i did build a shooting house that a chair could fit in for a buddy he pulled himself up too with a pully system, he did get a few deer out of it .
with cell phones you can get the freedom and still call for some one to help drag your deer.

If anyone knows someone with vision problems in one eye and has a hard time useing a scope because of it let me know. A gunsmith I know makes a special scope base that is off-set so the good eye can be used! I have them mounted on my guns because I lost vision in my right eye and they work great...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I don't know if there's a wider drive wheel available, or not.

I usually just carry my weapon on my lap. It's quite a balancing act! ANYTHING that helps carry some equipment would be a blessing...

I'm in the process of remodeling an old farmstead chicken coop, to use for a ground blind. I know a guy that's designed & built a treestand that uses a pulley system to get me in the air. I haven't seen it yet, though it sounds promising.

There's a downloadable brochure at this site:
http://www.motionconcepts.cc/terratrek.html

Let me know if the brochure has any good info - I haven't downloaded it...

I've had mine for 3 years, so I'm sure there's info I don't have. Plus, they're now offering a couple of different models. Back when I got mine, I couldn't find any info on the Web. I'm sure they're more expensive now, too....

Hey Chairman. That is quite a rig ya got there buddy. The others are correct on the Walkers Game Ear,it should help your buddy who is hearing impaired to be able to hear better while afield. In fact,I've been thinking about one myself, since I too have alot of hearing loss.
I'm thinking that for a way to carry your chair on an ATV,you could probably modify a tree-stand carrier designed for ATV's that would work pretty good on a chair too.I noticed too, that you were reworking an old chicken coop for a groung blind to hunt out of.How about a pop-up blind instead?Maybe one like a Double-Bull,or a
similar type? This way,you could ride in on the ATV,off-load to the chair, and then go into the area you wanted to hunt(with the chair and blind)and set up just about anywhere. What do you think?Just a couple thoughts for you to consider.Catch ya later....<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>whack

Hey, Whack!

I'm looking at all my options, for an adapted w/c carrrier - including a treestand carrier. I can't remember the brand, but I think I've found a model that wouldn't require too much modification.

I bought an Ameristep Outhouse pop-up blind last year, and it's pretty handy. I don't care much for the name, though - LOL. I wish I could have afforded the DoubleBull.... they're much larger! Most other pop-up blinds I looked at, the windows were too low to shoot from a w/c. A friend has a Double Bull blind, which he's gonna bring down for turkey season. He just bought it last year, and swears by it. I have no idea if it would be difficult for me to set up by myself, but I'm sure gonna find out!

That's exactly what I'm trying to do - be independent in taking my w/c & blind out, and setting up in my hunting spot. For now, I have to depend on someone having the time & inclination to help me set up, get to my blind before dawn and so on. I can't always hunt when it's convenient for me, because it's not always convenient for others.

I'm &quot;remodeling&quot; the old chicken coop because it's smack dab in the middle of a great hunting spot. It's an old homestead site, that was abandoned years ago. The deer have gotten used to it being there (built in the 50's), and have bedding areas nearby. I set up my pop-up blind in the area last year, and they avoided the area all together. I used scent control, effective camo and the whole 9 yards! I think the main problem was the camo pattern on my pop-up blind - I noticed it looked like a &quot;blob&quot; from a distance. Plus, my pop-up doesn't have adequate room for my w/c, weapon & hunting box. The coop has plenty of room to move around - without being detected.

RE: Adapted Equipment?

Hi again Chairman!I completly understand your predicament there bud, what with being kinda dependant on others for help in setting up.
Shame ya ain't close by....I'm off alot, the way that I work, and could use a hunting partner...lol!I hunt alone probably 99% of the time.Though I don't own one,I know that the double-bull is a real nice blind, although it is expensive. There are some other options around. One might be the fairly new &quot;quick carry ground blind&quot;,made by Avery. It is a lightweight blind(only weighs 1lb.),It measures 12
feet long,by30 inches high.It is really made for turkey hunters on the move. You set it up around you,so I think it would be not too difficult to do from a chair. It comes in two patterns:Mossy oak/
forest floor, and Mossy Oak/break-up.It has five fibreglass poles included, and comes with a shoulder strap for carrying,or in your
case,to attach to the chair-back maybe.Best thing is...it can be had for $25 or less!Another real good blind is the &quot;super-light portable&quot;
,built by Hunter's Specialties.It is 12 feet long,by 27 inches high.It is die-cut material,has 7 stakes,and weighs less than 2lbs.
To move all you have to do is,pull up stakes, roll it up,and go!It too
has a shoulder strap,and comes in Realtree x-tra brown,hardwoods,and
advantage timber. Will run ya about $30.
Her's a thought on the chair carrier too. There is a product called the &quot;haul it all&quot;(don't know the manufacturer),that mounts into a
standard 2&quot; receiver hitch on an ATV.It is made of 1&quot; square tubing,
and measures 20&quot;x48&quot;.It has multiple places to hook up bungee cords,
so you can strap stuff down.It will hold up to 300 lbs.It is available thru Bass Pro for one,and runs about $80.
One last thing you can try with your ground set-up,is too use a decoy, like one from Feather -Flex,to draw the deer's attention away from the blind. They are light-weight,and can be rolled up,and
transported easily.Hope some of this helps ya bud.Catch ya later!

RE: Adapted Equipment?

Here is a suggestion for a light weight, inexpensive blind for any hunter. The list of material:

1.Bungee cord type cargo net for pickup.
2 Enough camo to cover all but the very ends of cargo net when stretched to its limits.
3. 1 package of cable ties to secure camo to net.
4. 2-4 poles 5 foot long (optional)

All you do is stretch the cargo net out between two trees tight and secure the camo to the net with the cable ties leaving the ends of the cargo net free to allow you to wrap them around trees (or the optional stakes if there are no trees handy. You only need to do this one time.

There are some really neat advantages to this setup, first you can take almost all your gear throw it in the middle of the net, bundle it up and use the cargo net to transport everything to and from your stand location, second it is light weight, third you can set it up or tear it down quietly in less than 5 minutes.

The &quot;Print Brochure&quot; link doesn't work - for me, anyways. I have the Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 installed on my computer, but for some reason the page won't load.....

By any chance, did you save the pdf file to your hard-drive? How large is it? Maybe I could get you to send it to me?

Thanks in advance,

Rick
