Double Arm Amputee Hunter
 

:) I joined this message board to try to find some help for my son who is a double arm amputee hunter. He manages to successfully gun hunt with the use of prosthetics and a tripod; however, having been a champion archer prior to his injuries, his dream is to find some way to be able to use a real bare bow again with the possible development of some type of quick release system. His prosthetics would need to be modified, but that is a minor problem. I am proud to report that since his accident in July of 1999, he finally began deer hunting this past season. He killed a deer about the 3rd time out. What a thrill for him. Deer hunting is his first love, and I would appreciate any information anyone could muster or any ideas anyone might have to offer him some hope of returning to archery without having to resort to a crossbow. He owns a crossbow, but he just doesn' t like using it. He feels it takes the sport out of the feat. Thanks for any info/help anyone can offer.

I dont know anything to help but my best friend works with disabled people and she' ll be able to give you good advice. I' ll let her know about this and she should be able to help out :)

Hi ksg1964, Red Hawk asked me about this situation.
It makes me smile to see that your son is still going strong after this accident.
Like you said, you would have to modify his prosthetics. Thats easy.
I have some thoughts about this, I will make some calls and see what kind of info I can find out for you.

I' ve been looking for info on " Bite triggers" for a guy that emailed me through Hunters Helping Hunters. HHH assist hunting families in need during times of medical or funeral emergencies. I' m on the Board as Director of Applications & Funding. So request for help go to me. Any way, I got an email from a guy who is a C6 quad and he gets off target trying to pull the trigger. He saw a bite trigger on a TV hunting show, and wanted more info.

I found this web site and think you may be able to use this to release the mystical flight of the arrow again [8D] I think if you can modify your prosthetics to hold the bow, and pull it back. This would be the ticket!

He takes a regular release and modified it with a strap and uses a bite trigger set up to release the arrow. Pretty cool[8D]

I have seen a device advertised on the Outdoor Channel that might work well. It has a trigger realease similar to most on the market, however it also holds the bow string back until the release is triggered. Do some research or watch this channel for more details. Sorry I cannot give you anymore information on it.

Hey guys check out Buckmasters they have a link to devices for such situations
I was there looking for ideas for a crossbow holder for my son and they have all kinds of stuff.
