Hey 1da don't be sorry about a thing. At least you got a buck. My son shot a 5 point with the rifle on Saturday. Always good to get to pull the trigger.:D

Well thanks for all the well wishes guys. I may have a little sun in the future here. My son (have I ever mentioned what a great kid he is) has offered to take me on the atv to any one of several gound blinds and set me up with my bow. Then he will leave and go hunt himself. Then if I get one he will quit and come get me otherwise he will just pick me up after dark. What a great kid. I have been taking him hunting with me since he was 2. Our first hunt was for rabbits and he couldn't walk in the heavy snow so I ended up carrying him on my back. He to this day (over 14 years later) remembers that. He said if I could carry him out hunting he will do it for me. Maybe my season will not be over quite yet. Just much shorter then I planned.

Good luck to the rest of you guys. I'll keep you posted on how it is going.

Again I'm sorry for not being in here much:( A lot of things are happening around here and so far I've been out four time this hunting. However, I'm heading off the MD this weekend and plan on doing some serious hunting:D I'm then off the VT for another week of hunting so hopefuly I can start to add something to this group other than just a name. Here's what happen to me today:D

Our muzzleloader opener was on October 30th. I had left for PA to watch the Steelers kick some butt and didn't have the chance until tonight to hit the woods. It started to rain around noon but I was ready to head out and give it a try ;) I got to the area I wanted to hunt in and started off with some rattling. After waiting about 45min. I decided to give still hunting a try on the way back towards my truck in the creek bottom.

After walking about 200yards up the creek bottom I stopped and looked to my right. About 50yards on the other side of the creek I saw a deer standing in the saplings facing straight towards me just looking at me [:-] I put up the scope but didn't see a rack. Looked at the body and thought either that's one huge doe or I'm missing the horns. Well I couldn't see the rack through all the saplings and the deer wasn't helping me out by not moving.

I found the rack and dropped the crosshairs down on his chest and squeezed off the shot :D I caught only the flicker of his tail before I was smoked out by the blast. Never really did get a good look as to which way he ran but I did have good idea. After waiting a while I crossed over and started to look where he was standing. No blood which I kinda figured on seeing I shot him head on. I didn't even see any hair, leaves or tracks kicked in the woods so I started to get scared that maybe I pulled the shot and missed. After looking for a while I decided to go downwind and start looking again with a bigger radius. As I got down below where I shot and I thought the deer ran, I started walking back and forth.

I caught wind of what I thought was tarsal gland! So I stood there for about 5 minutes trying to smell it again but never did. I decided to head straight where I thought the smell came from and within 30yards I found my buck :D

I headed back out and got my four wheeler but didn't have me GPS with me >:( I kinda got lost but made it out OK and then once I returned with the four wheeler couldn't find the deer :( Finally after 8 tenth of a mile in, in the dark and in the rain I found him. Have yet to check him in but will first thing in the morning. I'll have better pictures as well, wife took this one and she could see a thing.
