Question about deer in velvet scoring
With so many early seasons going on in Sept. What is the ruleing on the scoring of a velvet clad buck? How will this be handled and addressed if it were to happen?

RE: Question about deer in velvet scoring
I think since this is just a friendly competition, if you are lucky enough to be able to take a buck in velvet, it should be scored as is.

RE: Question about deer in velvet scoring
Rules state...green score, no drying, score immediately..............I take that as velvet or not........

LOL @ Splitting hairs!!!
I agree with MO_Bowhnter and GroundHunter - friendly competition and if ur lucky to shoot a big buck in velvet then u deserve the full benefit of our gross green score ;) |
RE: Question about deer in velvet scoring
I like the idea of green scores. Should I be lucky enough to arrow a nice buck in velvet I don't think I'd scrape the antlers to get a score. A nice buck in velvet on my wall is more important then a scraped rack for bragging rights IMO.
I like friendly competitions. |
RE: Question about deer in velvet scoring
For the record I am not against velvet bucks in the contest.
We have 2 hunters whos season starts the first couple days of sept. and wanted a rule in place if / before one would harvest one. |
