Advice on Broad Heads
 

I just purchased a Excalibur Matrix Grizzly Crossbow. The package came with bolts that have 150gr field points. I would like to shoot expandable broad heads but do not see any on the market in a 150 gr. Can I go down to 125gr and still have good accuracy? and if so which broad heads would you recommend?.This will be used on Deer only.

I'd buy some 125gr. field points and try them. Unless it states to use only 150grs.

Should be able to go lower along as they fly correctly. I've been happy with Ramcats... and they are NY legal.

As long as dropping down does not put you below the manufacturers minimum (total arrow) weight, you will be fine. Been shooting Grim Reaper Xbow model Razortips for years......my freezer is never empty

Place a 150 grain Thunderhead on it and smile.

I shoot Matrix 355 this past season I shot 20" with Rage for crossbow 125. I get tired of losing fixed so I thought i would try them. I shot 2 deer. I am going to try 18" with 150 slicktrick...this year

I'm trying the 4 blade Wac Em' with my Tenpoint!

I think I may try the WASP Boss fixed 3-Blade BH's this year if they group well.
Last season I used G5 T3's... The few seasons before I used the MeatSeeker mech. And before that NAP Spitfires. The reason I am thinking of using the WASP's is I had a set from when I bought my Vortex then this year a relative bought me a pack that was on clearance for $5!!

Total arrow weight is important, but so is FOC weight. I find the heavier heads shoot better with light alum inserts. Cdover will have a great set-up this year with those 150 tricks :)

Here's my take. Realize this is coming from a 67 year old who started bow hunting in 1962. Like a lot of old dudes, I do not fix what ain't broke. However after a signioficant injury several years back I switched to a Cross Bow. I have no averse position to expandables, however I have used fixed blades for 50+ yeaars with excellent results on both penetration and quick kills. I would suggest you try a fixed blade. Check with Excaliber for advice on total bolt/broad head weight. If OK, try something like a 125 gr., 3-blade. I use the Montec brand. I have used Muzzy and Thunderhead 3-blade boradheads. Not one single issue with flight or penetration or quick kills. My Cross Bow is a Parker Tornado that is now 4 years old. I use 20" Red Hot bolts and a 125 Gr. Montec one piece 3 blade. Deadly combination for sure.
