New to Crossbow set up question

Just got my first crossbow yesterday. (Waited 40 years after first stick bow to jump in...age factor!) It is a Precision Arrow Inferno Hellfire II. I put it together, but when I put cable slide on the cables, and put it in the track, under rail, the cables are "skewed", (the "x" where they cross is not, at all centered under the rail, it is off to one side a good bit). Being new at this I have not drawn/cocked it, and Precision Arrow not open weekends. I did not know if this would self adjust if I cocked Should I take bow apart and start over. I just could not get the grooved slide to stay on at the point where they crossed. Any help would be appreciated.

Im new to crossbows so I can't answer your specific question. What I would do if I were you is go to youtube. Search for your crossbow. You can probably find assembly instruction videos. If not there is likely to be videos of your crossbow and you could see how others look. Only advise I have.

I suspect it's designed that way. My reverse limb crossbow has the same characteristic. On my bow the strings run through a slot in the rail and are deflected slightly at that point. If they crossed in the middle, at the point of deflection, they'd saw away at each other every time I shot it.

the pictures of my model, I have seen, look like the "X" in cables/slide are centered under the rail...mine is way off?

Not totally sure but it may be that way. My first CB was Horton TR75 and it was off centered. I would all the company and ask them.
