specialized broadheads

Is there really any large advantage in using special crossbow broadheads over a regular archery head. Always used 90gr muzzys with a compound and would like to use on cb unless i'm giving up a lot.

i cant speak to performance because i havent actually shot a deer with mine yet, but i really cant imagine an extra 30 or 50 grains making that much difference (most of the special crossbow heads i see are heavier). Now i have heard on some of the mechanical heads for crossbows they design them different to stay closed and not open in flight, but i cant say if its true. I like fixed heads in my excalibur, the muzzy and the cabela copperhead both fly just like a fieldpoint for me.

I have had good experiences with RamCats.

Scottycoyote,
Are the muzzys you use designed for crossbow(crosskill) or just the standard fixed blade?

Thanks,
How about everyone else? Are the crossbow marketed broadheads advantageous or just another gimmick?

I use the Rage 2 blade 100 grain on both my compound and crossbow. They shoot great on both.

Be careful shooting light weight broadheads in you crossbow... Check and make sure your bow doesn't have to have a certain weight in grains... I shot 100gr heads in my xbow and blew my bow up...

I shoot 100gr. from my Excal Vortex, but I also use 110gr. brass inserts for weight forward. I would read and see what your owners manual says about minimum weight arrows/heads.

I shoot 100 gr. Thunderheads from my Excal. with no problems. Shoot where I am looking and passes through.
