Best crossbow
I'm looking for a new crossbow & want to see what everyone likes/dislikes. This will be for VA whitetails, hunting from tree stands. Not afraid to spend the $ for the best out there, lets hear what you think. Thanks!
I should add, my budget is $1,500 so maybe that won't get me the best one, but should get me a darn nice one (I'd think). |
My money is on Camex. You would be hard pressed to find better once you weigh out your options.
|
I always hear people praise ten point and one of the best. I know they have bows in the price range but that is about triple what I was willing to pay so I didn't research the high end stuff.
|
Tough to beat ten point in my book
|
TenPoint is hard to beat. Quality and workmanship are top notch. Made in the good ole USA. Best customer service in the business. If you're looking for a recurve then I'd say Excalibur.
|
Camx user here. The Chaos is a top notch hunting set-up. It's dead nutz accurate too.
|
You can buy ALOT of Crossbow with $1500! If I had $1500 stashed back that the wife didn't know about, I'd be spending it on a TenPoint Venom with the AccuDraw-50 on it. My old TenPoint Titan TL4 is a decade old but still "gettiner dun" & it'll be in the woods again this Sat morn for TN bow opener as well. I know the Venom would make you happy for the next decade+ as well. :party0005:

Parker Xbows
Parker crossbows are a high quality x bow and they are made right there in your home state! They come with one of the best warranties in the business! I have a thunder hawk, and I just can't say enough about it. It's a compact crossbow (which is what I was looking for) and its very accurate and fast! It shoots at 320fps, which is really more than enough speed ! Too much speed, and in my opinion you create too much tork on the bow, which in turn affects on how accurate it is. At least that's the way it is with a compound bow, and I've been shooting for more than 40yrs, so I know a thing or two when it comes to shooting! The problem that I found with a lot of crossbows that I was looking at was they where just too darn heavy!!! I learned a lot about carrying heavy things in and out of the woods in all my years of hunting and heavy is just not suitable for me! I like being mobile and I try not to work up too much of a sweat as to keep my sent down as much as possible. This is another reason that attracted me to the Parker thunder hawk, was how lite it was, and easy it is to maneuver, especially if you hunt from a climbing tree stand. It fills all of my needs and it is a quality crossbow, just look up the reviews on it! hope this helped....good luck hunting...bob hosie:happy0001:

Scorpyd crossbows !
By far the fastest for draw weight now being made. These are reverse draw type xbows. Lower draw weight translates to lower noise & lower vibrations. Less chance for the deer to "jump the string" with lower noise & more accurate with lower vibrations. Scorpyd's top of the line bow for performance is called the "Velocity" and with a draw of only 165 lbs will launch a 22" 400gr. arrow at 425 fps. These are some of the more expensive bows on the market at this time, but the high end for any product pretty much always is. |
I just upgraded to the Excalibur Matrix 355 and it smokes them...Plus it is light and easy to maintain.

The narrower than most aspect of a Scorpyd crossbow would be a help in shooting from tree stands. I should add, my budget is $1,500 so maybe that won't get me the best one, but should get me a darn nice one (I'd think). The only issue with setting up a crossbow & scope set up using only the best of each will exceed your budget. The combination of the Vortex Viper scope & Scorpyd Velocity crossbow would in IMHO could only be beat by that same Velocity crossbow with a even better tactical scope with a MRAD or MOA scope.......but that would raise the price even more. The advantages to going with one of the better tactical scopes is that it would allow you to add adj. parallax & FFP recticule to the desirable features the Vortex XBR scope offers of large objective lens & illuminated multi aim points. But this would double or even triple the cost of the Viper scope.......that gets a bit scary. I've a very loving & understanding wife........but such a set up would be pushing the limit rather hard......at best. LOL, I guess I could point out that such a crossbow & scope would still be less than a couple of my guns........but only a couple. It's hard to believe that the best crossbows if given a top shelf scope to go with them are priced like some really nice rifles of today............ |
Are you new to crossbows ? Recurve style is a nice platform to start with, Excal models. Compound style i would choose Mission MXB
|
Carbon Express intercept if wanting to stay under budget with scope and HHA optimizer. If wanting blazing speed and money is no option go with scorpyd. For me and what I have seen and held/shot, Ten point is ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Complete waste of money on name only. For the cost of the Ten point Carbon Extra cls, you could get a Carbon Express intercept plus HHA optimizer, bushnell or Nikon scope for it, Remington Model 700 aac threaded, couple hundred Black Eagle Executioner arrows, few hundred rounds of 308 and have cash left over.
Your call but try shooting them and look at the price tag. YMMV |
2015 Kodabow Scout new model for 2015 under 25 inches cocked there a utube on kodabow site showing how its made =:devil:with best materials and top machine work!:kt:
|
Just my 2cents is go to a dealer and try some out. See how they fit and feel, See how they shoot. Then check out Wyvern creations for the deals and prices. That's were I bought a Ten Point SS Stealth that I use for shooting out of tree stands and blinds. It's easy to carry through the woods, Very happy with my purchase.

Home -built --xbow
Hi ---
apologies --this is a question from an old African crossbow hunter-- (new member --) Has anyone here --ever built a crossbow prod -- frm a steel pickup 6-8 mm thick --leaf spring blade? I have built several --heavy -yes -but powerful -- can anyone give me any feedback /advice on their experiences in building from scratch ---using .basic tools ? ie -how was the spring blade cut --etc -- thanku so much appreciate JACKRAB |
Matrix nice bow had 380 and 355 just watch dry firing them by mistake or using after market string with end loops to big I had my 355 and 380 blow limb tip they are only glued not pinned a weak point in matrix and micro line!
The recurve cross that never failed me in 4 years is KODABOW I have zulu and express and now the new 2014 kodabow scout it just a little smaller than Matrix when cocked built much better the limb tip are incased in metal and threaded pin holds the string, the trigger the best in the cross bow world! |
I like my Darton viper. I actually liked it a little more than the Ten point I shot. But either would be fine as far as I'm concerned.
Good luck whatever you choose. |
Darton a stand alone company great built and great service last for years!
|

He definitely needs to be relieved of his participation on this forum also!

Best cross bow in my opinion is a (Ten Point)
|
If I was getting a re-curve, I would consider getting a Vortex or other Excal recurve. The ease of maintenance, accuracy, String changes, and adjustments are foolproof. Their warranty are second to none as well. (at least for the very few extremely minor problems I needed addressed through the years. (They replaced the limbs beacause the kolorfusion camo started to flake off in spots. I will prolly never go back to a compound. There are also several kickass and even awesome for entry level compounds that are super accurate and nice as well.
I just believe I am par to my Excalibur because it is so easy to maintain and will drop any large game in N. Indiana I will ever pursue. Not to mention they are super lightweight. The limbs are a little wide but I can work around that for my purposes. Hope this helps. |
