crossbow preference

I've decided to enter into the world of crossbows, since NY finally passed a reasonable law for their use. I'm hoping for feedback from more than a few of you.

I've pretty much settled on { but not unequivocally } purchasing a Parker Enforcer. Any reviews/suggestions out there would be greatly appreciated.

Since you have made you choice , why are you asking for opinions?? It's a bit late for that!
You'll find out before too long if you made a mistake.

A lot of great xbows out there. I just went through 3 months of research before buying my first crossbow. The 2 brands that stood out to me: compound - TenPoint, recurve - Excalibur. Both offer great products, great warranty and customer service. BTW, I went with a TenPoint. It's built like a tank, more accurate than me and the piece of mind knowing that it's backed by the best customer service in the business was worth the extra $s.

As I stated in my earlier post, not 100% settled on Parker. Anyone own one and how they like it would be appreciated.

Thanks wayspar.

I'd recommend you check out CAMX before you purchase.

I really like my Excalibur Phoenix I get 300 fps on a light bow. I can change my own string. You don't need a bow vice it is very strong. I also like being able to take the tension of the limbs in the off season. I have had it for 5 years and I am completely
satisified with it.

I just love my Stryker 380, have since 2011 it does the job plus at that time the best trigger around. The full metal jacket arrows are also very potent.

When I was shopping, the Parker was one that interested me. It felt good, which is important. Research led me to decide on an Excalibur. They are wider (except the new Matrix line) louder, and lack "sex appeal" being old school. they are also light, accurate, easy to work on, and very well built with a great warrenty. Parker has had some limb problems over the years, and that also played into my decision.

Whatever you buy, enjoy the word of crossbow shooting. It is fun.

I just pulled the trigger on a new crossbow. After months of researching I chose the excalibur matrix 405 mega. I love the simple design, no wheels, cams, or pulleys to get out of alignment and i can change the string myself without fancy equipment. They say excal has great customer support but hopefully I'll never have to find out. Had I not went with excalibur, Tenpoint was my next choice. The main reason i chose the excalibur was I talked with 2 bow shops and both said they never had an excalibur brought in for any sort of problems. hope this helps but they are several good companies that make great crossbows so it's really up to you and what best fits you.

I would like to add to my post above that I bought my excalibur from Wyvern Creations and it was really nice doing business with David.

New crossbow hunter here last year. I purchased a Carbon Express CX2 and love it. Salesman at B&B said it was a solid bow. The thing I really like is its compact size. Bought the upgraded scope and it shots right on with every bolt that flies from it. Would highly recommend it.

I've been to two bow shops. I asked each which companies product do they do the most repairs to, and hands down both stated without hesitation Barnett. Lots of string and cable issues.

I shot three different crossbows, and was torn between a Tenpoint and a Parker. Both have an excellent product and superb warranty. All things being equal, today I chose the Parker over the Tenpoint because it simply felt better in my hands and felt more like I was shouldering my Encore 50 x 209 Magnum. Can't wait to start dialing it in.

Now I guess the next question would be arrows ie: what to look for in them?

Thanks for the input folks

I also just spent several months researching crossbows, including an overnight trip to Cabelas to get some "hands-on" experience. I bought the Excalibur Matrix 380. I liked the simple design, durability, speed, and reputation of the company. Now that it is in my hands, I really like the accuracy. If I am on a trip in remote country, I can easily change the string myself. Lots of good products out there. The Matrix seemed to suit my wants and needs.

ive owned a parker, it was a good bow and parker has the best customer service ive ever seen. I wanted something different and got into an Excalibur last year and really like it. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the name brand bows.

Late into this thread I realize. If it is any comfort, I have used a Parker Tornado for several years now. No issues. Fast and accurate. Not sure how many times I ahve shot it ... 400-500 at the range I'd guess ... and 23 times in the field. One clean miss ... 22 clean kills. Missed a coyote at about 75 yards on a "poke and hope" shot. Just a wee bit over his back .... about 3' !!!

I believe it comes down to what your pocket book can afford. $1500.00 plus is nuts

redgreen 07-23-2014 08:30 AM

I like the Excalibur Matrix mega 405. Efficient and deadly.

Kari Lynn Corbett 08-21-2014 11:55 PM

I owned a Parker crossbow. Just go ahead, it's really perfect.

Bugflipper 08-23-2014 04:37 AM

I have some excaliburs and a 10 point recurve. All of them are great. Not knocking anyone but barnetts are to be avoided. To many stories online about them breaking.

Not sure if this was posted before. Just saw in xbow mag a Recall on Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 Crossbows. The crossbow can fire an arrow without the trigger being pulled, posing an injury hazard to the user and to bystanders. There is also one on PSE.
Just be safe and check with Excalibur & PSE .

Oops, that ain't good!

I've got a Parker BB from 7 years ago... Bow shoot 340fps is pretty darn quiet and deadly accurate... Shot to light of a arrow threw mine and blew it up... Parker replaced both limbs and stuck a sticker on new limbs that tell me not to shoot arrows lighter than 425gr... Awsome customer service!!! Go ahead and spend that 1000 bucks I'll stack em up like cord wood with Parker lol

Alfonso891979 07-07-2017 08:42 AM

I just entered in crossbow world too!

Alfonso891979 07-07-2017 08:46 AM

How many types CAMX have?

daniel14121976 08-09-2017 07:13 PM

What’s undeniable is that one can’t go wrong with either of them; in the end it comes down to what your personal preferences are.

bubbinator 09-23-2017 09:57 PM

My Bow Pro sold me a complete Parker setup, the Blackhawk model, for about $500 fully ready to hunt. Bolt speed advertised to be 360FPS. Used it two Archery seasons, took 2 nice deer without any issues with equipment. Passed inspection for this coming season 100%. Company is helpful and responsive to questions. Couldn't be happier.
