Crossbow Cocking Ropes

Yesterday i was target practicing with my crossbow and when i cocked it back, the cocking ropes broke on me, the limbs are reversed and when the ropes broke the string came down and broke two of my toes. Anyone had this happen?

I also did not have shoes on

Ouch !!

Was the rope frayed or something? Cocking ropes are usually extremely over engineered.

I read of it happening to someone else when they were letting down the bow. So yes, it happens. That is scary. Think I will stick to just pulling the string back by hand - I have two marks to keep things properly centered. And I will fire a discharge arrow as needed into a small foam chunk.
