I am in need of a broad-head - what do you suggest?

I know some of you must try to stick the wild turkey!

Personally I use 2 inch or 2.25 inch Swhackers 100 gr.
But to be realistic most any good broadheads will do the trick.
With the vital area being small on the bird it all about shot placement.
Just my $0.02

They sell specially made broadheads for turkey hunting but I think any would do. you probably would be better off with a large cutting diameter broadhead. Small kill zone.

I agree with what you have written but how do those fly using a Crossbow? The Xbow I got came with two different types of broadheads the man used. One is a mechanical and the other fixed.

So I have been looking as I know some are better out there.

From my Invader the Swhackers fly just as my target points do. Nice and straight and hit the X every time. Match your Swhacker to your target points 100 125 gr. and your ready to go. Just wrap them with three uniform layers of electrical tap and fire away. I have found that through my Xbow anyways that the mechanical BH's fly better, more true than did the fix blades. Paper targets never lie.

The Swackers - Do they stay in the bird or pass through?

I've taken 3 turkeys with the x-bow. I think I used 3 different broadheads - 1 fixed, and 2 mechanicals. The one that seemed to be most effective (though I'm sure shot placement had something to do with it as well) was also the cheapest - Cabela's Lazer strike mechanicals. I used NAP Thunderheads for one and they did okay, but blew right through the bird like it wasn't there.

If I was going out again I would use a mechanical with a large cutting diameter (minimum 1.5"). It doesn't have to be pricey either- you are shooting a smallish bird, not a 200 pound buck. I would find a cheap, 3 blade mechanical with at least 1.5" diameter cutting blades that flies well in your x-bow.

Accuracy is more important- shot placement is real tough with a turkey.

I jsut ordered some Bullhead 100gr broadheads........and will try them.

They offer a 2 3/4 cutting area but I am thinking of doing the guillotine thing! :P

Call em in close is what I am used to while using a shotgun. Keep that the same closer than 20 ayrds and it should offer a good shot - maybe a reload and two shots if missed.
We will try and I will report back.

That screws up I do have some Rage mechanicals already used to sight in.

I'd like the arrow to stay in the turkey if possible. Easier tracking and should slow them down is my thinking.....
