Default questions about crossbows...

i am looking into getting a crossbow for the up coming hunting season in oct and was wondering what would be a good crossbow to start out with i'd kinda like to stay under the 500 dollar range if at all possible.

My dad bought a Jackle for $300. Not positive on the maker but I think it's made by Hoyte but I could be wrong. Seems to shoot well and for the money you can't go wrong. If our state doesn't legalize crossbows this year then I will probably buy one for when we go to Ohio.

The jackal is made by Barnett , its a pretty good bow for the dollar amout ! You might want to look at the Excalibur line of bows, if you shop around your $500.00 dollar limit is feasible .. I had a barnett but a friend was selling his excalibur exocet 200 and i fell in love! Good luck

You can get a new Excal, or TenPoint Wicked Ridge crossbow for slighty more. You are far better off WITHOUT a Barnett. If you read info on other forums you will find the majority of KNOWLEDGEABLE crossbow users stay far away from Barnett.
Like everything else if you buy cheap, you get cheap!!

I understand you get what you pay for but that's the top dollar that I'm going to be able to spend on one it sucks but it is what it is.

Check out Wyvern Creations for deals on complete new packages. Also look at the classifieds on Crossbow Nation and Archery Talk. Deals pop up on both of those sites for used bows. As a word of caution, if you go to Crossbow Nation read an entry about Parker strings and alignment under the brand specific (Parkers) area.
