low cost crossbow?

i am thinking of purchasing a inexpensive crossbow, i'm not able to spend more than $150.00 for one. my local shop does not have any used ones but said they could get me the barnett panzer 150lb for that price. my other choice would be a man kung 180lb for $90. with the man kung i would have more money for arrows right away but i know nothing about them. which would be the better deal?, thanks for any help.

stretch it to 200$. there are a few xbows from carbon express and horton that would be a better deal. hit up ebay. the mass produced cheapies are fun toys. i have one and quality is rough.

i thought i would update this thread, my birthday is in september and my friends and family got together and gave me $100. so now i have $250 to spend on a crossbow, any sugestions on what brand? i would rather have a recurve but it doesn't have to be. i owned a tacoma last year but had to sell it because of a move, it was good but they aren't made anymore and i'd like to have a brand thats still available. thanks

Ditto... I own an Excal Vortex now. Got it used on Ebay with one of the packages that come with everything including the Firebolts, Varizone, Stringer, rope ****er, soft case, etc. Got very very lucky. The guy sold it to me for $550 because I told him I would pay instantly and he needed money bad. It was listed for $700. Ill prolly never find a deal like that again. I was a little leary when he said he would do it. When I recieved the package everything was in immaculate condition. The bow was only used 1 season. So there are deals out there. Just have to look for them. I owned a compound Horton TR HD175 before that. Since it is not a recurve it requires more maintenance and a little more tuning but older used Hortons can be found around that price range and they are good CB's in my opinion. As matter of fact there are 2 on craigslist right now. One for $150 and one for $200 I believe. But if all possible I would go with an Excal. Even if it means waiting till you can get more money. Just my opinion of course...

i have a chance to buy a like new horton tacoma for $100, its just a few months old. the guy wants the money to put down on a ten point, the bow looks just like new. is this a good deal?, or should i keep saving for a higher end bow? thanks

That's a good deal. The Tacoma has been around quite awhile, if I'm not mistaken, under a bunch of names. It's no Excal, but will do fine, and you might use it a season, save your change, make a buck or two on it, and trade up. Good luck!
