Do mechanicals work with crossbows?

Do the mechanical heads work with crossbows? If so which one's, does swhacker work?

Huntr2 12-05-2010 04:54 PM

I used Meat Seekers and they work just fine. Huntr2

Some mechanical do fly well from crossbows some don't. Problems generally involve premature deployment of the blades due to the sudden surge of a crossbow. I avoid any that have to be banded. Only way to tell is to test fire them, preferably with paper stretched in front of target to see if they were deployed when hitting paper.
Spitfires have worked well for me. But my go-to head is the Slick Trick or Grizz Trick, not mechanicals but good flight, awesome terminal performance. .

I use Firstcut mechanical and have had great success with them. I have taken 5 deer in the past 4 years using them and all but one only ran about 35 yards. They produce a well defined blood trail. I have a Horton Legend LS that is about 10 years old.

I shot 2 Tick Toters this yr with Spitfire 100 both pass-throughs both good blood trails

My Dad and Uncle uses splitifres, I use Bloodrunners, nobody has had any issues with premature deployment.

I would have to say from a physics standpoint the mechanicals are more likely to work out of a crossbow than a compound bow. Most crossbows have more kinetic energy than a traditional compound bow due to the speed and the weight of the arrow which is being fired.

Most of us use the Rage 2 blade and they work great from our compounds and Joe's Tenpoint crossbow. The stay closed until they hit target and then they expand.

I shoot rage 2 blade or spitfires. I have had great success with both out of a Horton Legend XT 175.

vadeer 12-12-2010 12:32 PM

I use Spitfires and Shockwaves. No problems with either.
I take more deer with these than w/ my 30-30.

spitfires

most at club like spitfires 100 gr.they like idea that the field spitfires shoot same spot as the hunting blade spitfires.they buy them on sale for 26 dollars in feb .

Mojotex 12-23-2010 12:22 PM

I have several friends that use this or that brand of expandables with excellent results.

Do mechanicals work with crossbows

My friend shot his deer with a a 2 bladed 125 gr. Rage broadhead out of a Barnett Predator crossbow. The deer fell over within 50 yards.

I shot this buck using grim reapers. (dressed out at 160 lbs) They fly just like my field points and do not open until contact with the deer. The arrow passed thru and I found it 40 yards past the deer I shot. I also put a doe down that a buddy had shot and again had no problem.

brushbustin 01-05-2011 07:56 AM

Im useing spitfires also! Only shot 1 deer with it,28yd dead center shoulder shot, complete pass thru, and only went 25 yds.

briarpatch 02-18-2011 05:35 AM

Grim Reaper Xbow model....field point flight and insane blood trails

mortalcare 02-18-2011 08:34 AM

yeah they work.bows and crossbows are the same princible, they both shoot a aroow forward using kinetic energy.

Michlw39 09-09-2011 04:10 AM

I'm another satisfied Spitfire guy (Barnett Quad 400).

Yes they do. I use Rage 2" 2 blade. Rage came out with a 1-3/4" two blade this year.
My xbow shoots over 390fps so I have no problems with complete passthroughs with the 2". They leave a hell of a whole in them too.
This is a picture of the buck I shot last year. Rage in the cage.

i shoot muzzy fixed 3 blades in tenpoint. i shot a bear last year ,he went 40yds and died. looked like a garden hose of blood coming out the exit hole. i alway used 3 blades over 2,i just think the hole they make will spread more blood .

Buckhunter46755 09-16-2011 10:10 AM

I've used the 100gr Spitfires in the past with good results. This year I'm using the Rocket 100gr MeatSeekers since I have a pack I recieved as a gift I thought I'd try them out. I've also heard very good things about the 2 blade Rage. My brother in law is using the those this year.

catman 1 09-23-2011 07:35 PM

I have used the 100gr Vortex since 1994, I bought a lot of them to last me, I have about 10 left. They fly the best for me..

aarontriton 10-10-2011 11:50 AM

my best friend just shot a buck with standard rage 2 blades out of his cross bow it did fine. I personally do not care for them . you are better off with a fixed blade if your bow will shoot them accurately mine will so i like the durablity and the ease of blade changes . rage are expensive replacement blades and a real headache to change the blades imo
