Best crossbow for SHTF?
 

Hello everybody,

i'm new! Not to shooting, but to crossbows.

I'm planning for when the SHTF, and i'm thinking a crossbow might be a good alternative my other firearms, as bolts can be picked up after shooting them, unlike bullets

Now i'm asking the more experienced, what's the most rugged, durable crossbow, with few maintenance needed? Mainly for hunting, but being able to use it as a SD weapon would be nice too.
So far I've learned a recurve crossbow is the way to go, so i put together a little list that interest me.
Which of them is the best, in your opinion?

Excalibur: equinox
Kodabow: big rhino
Tenpoint: gt mag
Horton: legacy cs 225
Barnett: panzer v

Price isn't that important, as this shall be a one-time buy.
I'd rather spend some more once, than buy cheap and twice.

Unless you knowed how to reserve the center serving on the Equinox. You would be better off with the Vortex if'en you want the Thumbhole stock model

You can forget about 'picking up the arrows' shot from any on the list you presented. A crossbow is a lousy pick for SHTF situations, get a Mossberg 500 12 ga.

well i got a Benelli M4 already, so that's covered.

No picking up bolts? Why not? Will they break in the deer?

Well, my experiences w/ an Emax [older 225# model] has shown me arrows blow through deer and disappear unless they hit a tree, then the bhead is toast. Squirrels on the ground are $10 a pop. Tasty, but ribeye is $5.99 per lb. The alum arrows bend, the carbons self destruct if they don't sail off into the ozone.

Xbows for self defense are ludicrous. Bheads kill by bleeding out which gives a crack head type beau coup time to S&W your butt whilst bleeding out. That's if you hit them good the 1st shot. Don't worry about a 2nd, you'll be long gone, lol.

I've had several toys including a bunch of xbows. My choice for a survival type tool would be a .22 rifle, but if you want an Xbow for that, then an Excal Vixen at 150# would be hard to beat. Little to no serving issues, last's forever, little to no maintenance.
