well im thinking of buying my first cross bow i can tell you now i dont like the red dot scopes so i want a scope with cross hairs im not rich lol i got 400.00 to spend what do you guys think is good ill be hunting in llano tx small body deer

Your budget will restrict what is available, esp if you have to buy the related gear like arrows, broadheads, sling etc.
Suggest you consider a used bow to get the best value for your money, preferably a recurve. Excalibur bows carry a lifetime warranty that is honored for used bow. I also prefer a scope to red dod, bought a new Hawke MAP scope made just for crossbows for under $70.

Everything I've heard and read about the Explorer has been positive. Just bought one for my stepson ...Shoots nice ,good groups,easy c***er ...For that price range (under $300) I don't think theres a better one ....

forget the scope and put extra money into a better x-bow. I mean really, do you need a scope for up to 30 or 40 yrds? Unless it has a range finder built in I'd prefer to not carry around the extra breakable addition.

Okay...time to cloud the issue with another manufacturer...Parker...they have some new entry level crossbows which may fit your budget....namely the Enforcer and the Bushwhacker....they come with a lifetime warranty...mkae sure you factor all the other stuff you'll need into your budget...arrows/lube/wax/field points/broadheads/target/case

So many good choices, just shoulder as many as you can at your price point then decide.
