mystery broken part

Hi guys, just wondering if someone can help me out a bit. I just received a crossbow, and it seems to be in decent shape (well with as little as I know about such things). My experience in crossbows is limited to the little pistol ones. There is this piece towards the business end that appears to have been snapped off. In the picture it is in the middle attached with two phillips screws. If anyone can tell me what exactly that is I would really appreciate it. And if it is something that will definitely need to be there for safety or operation sake. The Horton website wasn't much use :(

Call them and ask to speak to a tech.

it would help if you could give us a couple more pics of dif. angles.

That holds your sight pins, if you use peep and open sights.
They only cost a couple of bucks. If you are going to use a scope you don't need it.

Thanks Ron! I just found this in the parents garage. Now to find someone to show me the ropes (and a safe place to practice)!

The bow does have a rail for a scope. But if I'm just dinkin' around with it, maybe sight pins are the more economical way to go.
