Omfg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know this just burns my ass and all i can say is what a let down. I go to sit out tonight and see if i can get me a buck or doe with,my ah um ewwwww, (it ) you know the barnett thing contraption.Well im in by 5ish prune a couple trees, climb up the tree with my climber and sit for an hour and a bit and then here comes the rain and is it pouring so i scramble down pack up and leave. I put a sh&%t bolt in and fire off the as i call it old faithful OMFG CABOOM, i i look down and string in 2 peices and no arrow, so now what my shoulder is screwed compound is off limits and now my crossbow just blew up. Now i dont know about future xbow buyers but beware....................PLZ so i call barnett and nobodys home.:confused0024::sad:
|
Man,dat sucks,did u c anything while u was out there??
|
That's pretty much typical of Barnett Crossbows. Doesn't make any difference which model.
|
Nope nothing and im glad i would of threw it at a deer after it blew up. Piece of S%$#@T xbow.
|
Sorry man, that's got to be a big disappointment. I blew up a compound too but that was my fault, not like your experience.
The more I think about it the more I'm inclined to keep the recurves and ditch the compound I still have. My 'lighter' reurve gives me complete passthroughs on deer at 30 yards and hits 50 yard targets with accuracy and authority. And, the best part, it's TOTALLY dependable. |
Oh i get pass throughs etc and can shoot 50 yards but this will be my 4th set of limbs and 3rd string. Better yet my life time warrenty is no longer. What next?
|
Sorry to hear that. :( Have heard it repeatedly regarding Barnett crossbows. :bash::bash: Glad you weren't hurt. Good luck to you.

I found this site last year when my new Barnett predator started snapping strings. It is then that I realized what a POS I had. I took it back to the company I bought it from and demanded my money back and went and bought another Ten Pointe. I shot an eight pointer with it last season and just recently killed a six point buck two days ago. I agree with the general consensus. SELL THE POS!!!!!

Jeep, post your story and locale on the Excal forum. I'd be willing to bet a guy there will have a spare bow to loan you til you get dialed in w/ whatever you decide to do. I've watched them do it every year for other guys. Excal problems are rare and easy fixes, but they help non Excal guys too. |
i am glad yer not hurt, i hear of this brand failing alot! we tell ppl but they keep buying. that company just keeps right-on building more to fail. they gey their/your money
|
at least you are okay, but what a piece of crap
|
There are several here who try to warn people about Barnetts, there are those of us who come right out and say what a P.O.S. Barnetts are and list examples and facts confirming that they are junk.
Then we have twits, idiots, fools and Bozos who advocate what a good quality crossbow Barnett makes, how they have turned things around, what good customer service they have and the price point to performance is so good! DUH!! All this crap is 100% opposite of what is really happening with Barnett , yet people believe this hype and continue to buy Barnett junk. Makes me wonder!! |
there should be a warning sticker on every Barnett CB box saying buyer beware of the risk of bodily injury if shot! :D:D:D
|
Been there. Done that. Twice! Move on to a different make. All you will get from a problem CB is flintching everytime you shoot it. Along with a deep lost of confidence in its preformance. I sure wish I would have found this place BEFORE I MADE my first purchase!

Sits in Trees, your right you give a brand a try if it doesnt work for you their are many good brands to choose from. Their should be good deals out there since the new models will start coming out. Buckeyefootball

Wow this dude seems to have an agenda, what are you the one man crusade against Barnett crossbows?? lifes gotta be boring, huh. what do you do cruise this forum looking for Barnett threads just so you can jump in and start a bashin. what did you work for Barnett and get fired or something??
if you hate the brand so much just don't own one and shoot what you want. a person a little gun shy, been there dont want to see it happen to anyone else, thats why I speak out against them. Seems to be happening more and more with these bows.:barmy: |
Any new bow is going to go thru a "shake down" period. You can beat up prototypes all you want, but that will not gaurentee that the production models will hold up. The issue I see is that there is WAY too much limb on these bows for what the rest of the frame is able to handle. In their quest to make a cheap, fast bow, Barnett made a handgrenade. If the Preditor was built to shoot say 325fps there would be alot less issues. You want to go fast, you better have a chassis that can handle it and that means you will not be able to make it to hit a $400 price point. Either slow it down to what the bow can handle, or build it right so it stays together and charge accordingly. The people who want 375fps but dont want to pay for it need to get a grip and either step up and pay for a quality bow, or deal with a slower bow that will hold together for the price they want to pay...Or get a big box of bandaids...

if you hate the brand so much just don't own one and shoot what you want. It's not about hating the brand, it's about caring for future and present bowhunters who could, and will get hurt by having a Barnett blow up . It's also about responding to comments like yours and other people that are utterly assinine, foolish and unintelligent! |
Sorry that happened. After reading the reviews on Barnett, I chose to get a Parker crossbow.
|
excal or ten point are the best crossbows IMO. Nothing shoots as consistant or as accurate. Love my excal and I shot a coyote at 65 yards with it last week while deer hunting, My limit is 45 yards on deer but this sucker was pissing me off coming out into range about 4 times that morning. I squeeked once and let her fly. He dropped 10 yards later
|
Ive owned several barnetts swore by them etc, but my last one i had for 8/9 yrs the quad 300 is out now, they dont make them so barnett some how has to piece it together, and dont get me wrong shoots fine. The problem starts when the thing wont hit the broad side, and trying to contact barnett was a no no, no call no email no nothing, SO FINALLY i get a hold of barnett and send it in and we will fixer up AGAIN, so thats it, Soon ill have a quad 300/400 for sale. Any takers?
|
Surely u jest!
|

if you hate the brand so much just don't own one and shoot what you want. Hey Im glad there are people out there that share there bad expierence with us... I don't own a barnett... But after reading all these post. I definetly would look for another brand!!! I bought a Parker BB 175 and love it so far... I've killed 3 deer with mine so far... For a Xbow... That thing is quiet!!! |
I had a jennings xbow blow up on me years ago and I sold my brand new barnett Quad 400 on the advice of some other xbow hunters and I'm glad I did.
It blew up on the guy who bought it. No injuries thank God so he sent for a new one and promptly sold it. Never again. |
Never owned and never even shot a Barnett BUT I did do my research BEFORE I bought a bow not afterwards. I actually took to heart the advise I was getting from many sources. I have nothing against Barnett but I do value the opinion of guys who know more than I or who have had a Barnett fail.
I'm happy to have chosen an Excalibur with whatever drawbacks it might have. It pays well to go with the general consensus when the consensus is that they are junk.:nonono2: PS.. I bet a lot of deer have been taken with Barnetts.. |
bummer
should of got an excalibur :cool15: |
u guys are making me paranoid. my barnett is 4yrs. old and still has the same string and all since i first bought it. i've never had a problem with it yet(even after it fell 20ft from my stand last year.) i shot a doe with it this year and now after a buck. i know the string will need replaced at the end of the season. and maybe some new cams. but after reading this i now wonder if i should just go buy a new xbow!........puzzled?...
