Crossbow broadheads

What kind of broadheads do you use with your crossbow? I just got an Excalibur Equinox last week and need to get some broadheads before the season. I have always used Muzzys but I have heard fixed blade broadheads don't work well on crossbows. I apprecaite the help.

I use the spitfire expandables, but I have not heard any negativity associated with using fixed blades on a xbow. I have only been hunting with a xbow for four years and there are others on this site more knowledgeable than I and am sure they will provide some more insight to that issue. I usually average about three deer a year with my xbow and the spitfires have worked well for me. Some of my buddies say they dont have a big enough cutting length, but they have done me well over the past few years. They shoot exactly the same as my field points, so thats why I like them the most. I dont usually experiment very much. If I find something that works for me, I usually stay with it.

Fixed heads work great in my crossbows providing they are low profile and 4-bladed, on an arrow with relatively high FOC. I'm using 100 gSlick Tricks on Gold Tip Lazer II's with 110 g brass inserts and 2" Blazers. Rig weighs 400 g total and has 18.5% FOC. Suggest 125 g Slicks for your Equinox, worked great on the one I had.

I use the three blade Rage. It really punches large entry and exit wiunds. I've had complete pass through every time. They come with a practice head and are very accurate. I practice out to 50 yards.

You can use broadheads with a crossbow- but they often will shoot to a different point of impact than field tips, so you need to practice with them. Some broadheads shoot to the same point of impact as field tips- such as Slick Tricks. The 125 grain Slicks should shoot good for you- they're my favorite if I'm not using mechanicals.

I'm using NAP NightMares because that was one of the brands found to have good accuracy with the type vanes my arrows have.
