Do you hunt Turkeys W/Xbow

Looking to take on the big birds with my xbow this spring. Looking for advice on how to make it work. Saw nothing in the Turkey hunting forum about using a reg bow much less a horizontal one. How do yous guys get er done?

I do it in the fall, same time as deer/archery season. I shot several that way just luck tho.

I used a ground blind, calling and decoys. Works if you can get to them before they hen-up.

I've taken 2 turkeys with the x-bow. I use a ground blind and setup like I would with a shotgun. Aiming point is different, of course- I aim for the "shoulder" area when the turkey is broadside. By the way - when hit by an arrow, a turkey rarely just "drops" right there. Both my kills have required tracking, and 1 required a follow-up shot. If you can, use mechanicals with the biggest cutting diameter you can find - at least 1.5". If you can hit it straight through the "shoulder" area and break both wing bones, it anchors them pretty fast.

It's a bit tougher than with a shotgun, but it can be done. A ground blind makes it much easier.

Here's a link for aim points on turkey, you have to scroll down from gun to archery. I got three so far w/ my xbows and use the same bhead as deer but add a Zwickey Grappler to keep the arrow in the bird, hopefully.

Awshucks...Thanks for the turkey website on where to aim. I have it as one of my favorites and will study it often since the Illinois season opens on Monday...and snow is forcast!!

The site Awshucks posted is one of the best that I have seen. Not only does it show the pictures and points of impact, but also tell which is the better shot and why. Remember that shooting a strutting turkey is nice to see, but it is a more difficult shot as the feathers actually hide or create a different size to the body which could cause a bad hit. As for the arrow/head combo, use your regular hunting setup if your confidant and happy with it, but add an arrow arrestor to the arrow to stop complete pass throughs.

good luck.
