I lost a friend last Tuesday
Guys, I lost a hunting friend last Tuesday. He and his brother were hunting, using climbing stands on federal hunting land and he didn't get his cable fastened right and fell 30 feet to his death. It's so sad and such a loss. If only he would have used a hunter safety harness. He was 58 years old and from the old school that didn't like the harnesses. To binding and restrictive I guess.
Please, Please guys, use those live saving safety harnesses. It could be the difference of you ever hunting another day or not. Thanks for listening. BBO |

Not having a harness is no big deal until you fall. The happy hunting grounds might be a great place but I wish your friend had waited another 25 years before visiting. I will pray for your pal but the rest of you take notice.
I never feel as bad for the guy who died as I do for his family. He has moved on and they are left with the heart ache.Hard to imagine what his brother feels like. |

using climbing tree stands, over time you are going to make a mistake ,your fault or tree or weather.also going above 20 ft is never very wise.
yes, harness would haved saved his life. i went to LADDER STAND as i am not going to have that happen to me,15 feet is as high as i get and kill a great buck evey year. my brother slipped on his summit stand and hurt his rotator cuff, now he is permantly hurt at 53 years old. i fall asleep in my ladder stand all time, i use only a WAIST HARNESS,pulled tight you are not coming off your seat. sorry to hear such a thing but i hear it a lot in my area and i dont use CLIMBING STAND anymore for just that reason. |
