broadhead weight
 

What grain of broadhead do you guys recommend for shooting deer? I was leaning toward 85gr, but didn't know if that was too light or not? If it makes a difference, I am shooting a parker buck buster 345fps.

Your broadhead weight will determine your FOC. For good arrow flight with broadheads you'll want somewhere between the low teens and 20 and generally the higher the better. Broadhead weight often determines width of the blade as well. I would start at around 100 grains and move up from there.

Somewhat depends on the weight of your arrow and requirements of the bow. Assuming your bow has a minimum arrow weight of 400 grns, your arrow will need to weight over 300 grns, without the tip, to hit that with an 85 grn broadhead. I agree with DNK that FOC (forward of center ratio) is very important in crossbow arrows. I like mine to be at least 20%. Therefore, I prefer Gold Tip Lazer II's with brass inserts and 2" Blazer vanes (no cresting). Coupled with a 100 grn broadhead (I like Slick Trick mags) gives me a 405 grn arrow with + 20% Foc. I get great accuracy and terminal performance with this combination from my 280 fps Phoenix and 315 fps Vortex. With the 350 fps Cyclone I up the broadhead weight to 125 grns. Same results.

i would atleast use a 100grain for starters... 100 grains seem to be majoc for me, but then again I usually add weights to the inserts to make my own bolts. I like my bolts anywhere from 375-405grains, normally 390's is perfect for me. I like to get a weight thats not to heavy, nor to light

but try a 100grain bhead and see how it does. The lighter 85 one might make the arrow less stable... you might not see any difference from 0-15 yards, but after that you might see some zigzag

i like heavy arrow weight combo's for hunting. bigger tuffer game the heavier i want my arrow. my min for hunting tick toters and such is 400 grs my bear/elk if i ever hunt them would start at 430 grsand go upheavy front and lite rear is the way to go[:o][:-]:D
