Need help with a Compound Crossbow

i recieved itfrom a friendand have many questions.

It has halfbreed(pat pend) written on on the arms. it has two steel bars coming back to a steel cross peice and a hand grip under the shoot thru rest. it must shoot like a crossbow because the bolt will fall out of the rest if turned. the steel cross peice seems to fit nowhere but in the right hand while holdin the bow steady with the hand grip.

it had a peep site looking thing on the top which is spring loaded. im guessing to prevent damage, it springs right back into it position when the front peep is move in a downward direction

it has a D loop on the string like a compund bow but has no trigger or release system. all the releases i have are to long for the bow to go into its relaxed state

im not sure if something is missing or im the one missing something and i can use any advice or help i can get. we were planning to use it to hunt gators. the bolt will be longer than a regular crossbow bolt but shorter than a regular arrow

thanks in advancefor taking the time to read this confused post
