RE: xbow scope??
Many rifle scopes work just fine on crossbows. Check with the manufacturer to see if it will hold up and go from there...

thanks wyvern!

RE: xbow scope??
excals lumizone has one xhair and 4 solid small black triangles that run 30-40-50. rifle scopes work well also. the heavy duplex or german post on bottom. will give 2 reference pts. example sight in at 20/25 yds with xhair then the heavy duplex or post junction will be 30/35 yds setting

RE: xbow scope??
I had a single red dot on mine and although I liked it at first I grew to wanting something with multiple points fairly quick, I'd imagine I'd have the same opinion on a regular rifle scope, I bought a lumi-zone from Wyvern Creations and cant believe I didnt do it right off the bat... with the lumi-zone and a range finder it almost take the fun out of it... :D

RE: xbow scope??
I will 2nd and 3rd the Lumi-zone.
I too cant beleave I didnt go that route right away.... |
RE: xbow scope??
Looking at it from a different angle :-) I have hard time understanding why anyone needs magnification for shooting a deer sized animal at 30 yards. I also have a hard time understanding why anyone wants to add a large, heavy clunky rifle type scope to an already heavy crossbow. I have proved to myself mutlple times that in very low light, very close range shots in wooded terrain, target acquisition is better with a zero magnification reflex red dot sight. Shooting with both eyes open in these situations is a plus because depth perception is a crucial factor in not losing sight of the target. A scope with magnification creates depth perception problems for most folks in very low light close range shot situations because you either have your left eye closed or you are seeing a different image with each eye. Not good :-( Crossbow scopes with multiple closely spaced reticles AND magnification makes the problem even worse. For those reasons I use nothing but small lightweight red dot reflex sights either in single dot or 3 dot configuration. For single dot applications, the Zeiss Z-Point is unmatched in quality and patented features. For 3 dot applications, needed for extended range hunting situations, I use the Ten Point 3 dot or the Stryker 3 dot. Their dot spacing is different soI can normally get one or the other to work with most any crossbow by finding the right arrow and weight combination for either 20/30/40 yards or 30/40/50 yard sight-in.

RE: xbow scope??
Aside from magnification, the most obvious advantage of a scope with an adjustable reticule spacing, like LumiZone, is that the scope can be tuned to the arrow...rather than the obverse.

:DLumizone/Vari-zone reticules.

RE: xbow scope??
i have tried the lumizone on a excal that i had and i just dont like all the lines and triangles and stuff on the crossbow scopes in general.....i know that 99.99999% of all xbow shooters favor the new technology in the scopes and i can understand that but i just want a regular lightweight scope with the normal old school reticles......i'm not talking about putting a zeiss conquest 4,5-14x44 or anything like that but rather just a small scope.

RE: xbow scope??
I know what you mean okodaka. I still use a VariX III and a Monarch Gold on 2 of my crossbows. It makes a big difference in clairity and brightness. Far better than any crossbow scope and the Holo that I use too. Up to this year that's all I used on crossbows, just bright rifle scopes. I've found that anything up to around 3.5X great. The better rifle scope are far more tough as well, withstanding more shock from knocks and drops. The best thing about Excal scopes is their lifetime warranty vs the price. Adapting to the Excal scopes is really easy and happens pretty fast.

okodoka-
As has been said, just look into rifle scopes! Who ever told you that they won't work apparently isn't very knowlegable about scopes OR crossbows! I understand not everyone likes red dot sights. Everyone's different.....different people have different desires...that's why there are many scopes and sights to choose from out there. Just go to Cabela's or other stores web site and look around till you see something you think you'll like. Here's a place to spend a coupla hours... http://www.opticsplanet.net/riflescopes.html Mike |
RE: xbow scope??
Smallish 4 power (inexpensive) rifle scopes are hard to come by. You may want ot look at the Leupold rimfire in 4 or 2-7 poer; a Swift scope I shot for a while was a great optics value.

RE: xbow scope??
Bushnell Banner! i have had one over 20 years and its right xhair line has broken from center. stills works like a charm.

RE: xbow scope??
Try the little Simmons Turkey scope. It's around 100 bucks, small and around 100 bucks.

RE: xbow scope??
You can use a regular riflescope, but many have too much eye relief for a comfortable position. You will need to use some sort of extended or high extended mount. Armalite makes one which is pretty cheap. Weaver makes super cheap(junk) rings which work. . . .or you can find whatever you want from Larue Tactical to make this work. For my crossbow, I used the Weaver rings, but may upgrade to the Armalite.

I use a cabelas ml 2x by 7x and love it, Works good for me, 50 Yd parallex.
Good luck, Stan |
RE: xbow scope??
One of my friend's new GT Flex with the best reflex sight on the planet mounted on it
JMO of course. I'm not speaking for everyone :-)I re-worked the trigger to get a nice clean 2 lb. pull with NO creep. These are sweet little bows. I just can't see a large heavy and long rifle type scope on this crossbow. He does have an Excal Phoenix with a Simmons 4 power Turkey scope on it. The diamond shaped reticle can be used for 3 distances. We worked out an arrow weight combination to get 20/25/30 yards on it. Pretty neat I think. ![]() |
RE: xbow scope??
Because he will only be cocking his Flex with the Accu Draw, I removed the foot stirrup and replaced it with a 5/16" eye bolt with a rubber coating. Looks a little strange at first but the benefits are less weight, less overall length and less ringing at the shot which iscaused by the factory stirrup design. The eye bolt comes in handy for hanging the crossbow on stand or in the garage:-)
