I just ordered a Barnett Quad AVI
 

I have no experience of crossbows and this is my first crossbow.

This has not arrived yet and I am looking forward to this arriving.

I have just been reading some reviews about the Barnett Quad on the review centre and it all seems a little bit worrying!

A lot of the reviews said the bow snaps after less than a hundred shots.
Someone else said they had a lot of trouble with the bow breaking a lot.

Another had the thing fall apart and has a scar on his face and is now scared to fire the bow.

These are not the kind of things you want to read to fill you with enthusiasm.

What do you guys think about all this?

Another one post on the reviewcentre said you should always use heavy aluminium bolts on this bow.
He said carbon bows are too light and like dry firing.

I thought Barnett's own bows were carbon?

This whole things is confusing me.

Please can you let me know as much info as possible for me to understand all this?

I have never shot one, a person should read and study all available info prior to Ordering and buying a CB. That company had a predator over in OK. Bow shoot to give away by a drawing. no i didn't waste my time. i wish you the best of luck with yours

First...I think most of what you've read was the original Quad 400. Not the AVI design.
The AVI has different limbs, different cams, some of the trigger is different. You should be fine.
I've got an original design Quad 400. The only trouble I had was a bad trigger pull. Ended up fixing it myself...all is well now.
I did quite a bit of shooting it last weekend....no problems what so ever.

While not in the class of the Darton, Bowtech, Horton (Recon), and most likely other higher priced bows (I can't claim on bows I don't own!), it is plenty usable and fairly accurate.

Barnett is an old crossbow company (over 40+ years) so there are a lot of bows out there (close to a million according to some sources).

There were limb issues (with glass picking) on bows made a couple of years ago and this led to the demise of (Barnett International) but the new company (Barnett Outdoors) has resolved this issue.

The AVI limbs are very strong and you won't have an issue with them.

The arrows that come with the Bow are carbon arrows that weigh 445 grains each (22" arrow). I am not sure why someone wrote that you should only use heavy aluminum arrows. All Barnett bows except for the Panzer V come with Carbon arrows (either 20" or 22").

Make sure that you put the safety to the off position before pulling the trigger.

People love to rag on the Barnett line, it seems to be a rite of passage on forums.

Many thanks for the info.

I understand people knocking what they beleive to be inferior quality bows.

My main passion is airguns and I am a member of the 4 airgun forums.

Every time some newbie posts saying that He/She has just bought their first airgun, people ridicule the poor guy's choice.
"Why didn't you spend £700 on a Weihrauch ora Steyr?"

I beleive it is pointless spending any real money on a piece of kit until you discover you enjoy shooting.
Better off buying a second hand piece of rubbish for £30 and plink at tins in the garden.

You know what boys are like with their new toys.

A lot ofimpulse buysget used for a few days and then never used again.

Although I am sure my new toy won't be put away in the attic for years!

I agree with your above quote, but to only a certain extent. I personally got into muzzleloaders a few years ago, but I purchased a CVA (hunterbolt 150) and not one of the more expensive models of another manufacture.

But the difference with crossbows is that the make of the crossbow can really determine how much fun you can have with your new venture. An unrealible, inaccurate flimsy crossbow will more then not lead the shooter to a bad experiance, therefore not a happy one, thus leading to an unhappy shooter which will probually tell others about his bad experiance. In no way am I saying that your choice of bow is a bad one (I do not know of, or heard of that model) only that your choice might lead to some bad experiances from past history of the barnet models.

BTW, I sure hope that they have corrected their problems as the crossbow world does not need any bad press or bad mouthing which comes from unhappy campers.

Everyone should buy which ever crossbow they feel is right for them. There are very good CB's , medicore CB's and real bad CB's.

Bottom line is you alone have to be happy with whatyou buy. You get what you pay for, just like anything else.
