RE: Crossbow Statistics
Only two points of contention... First, the Texas crossbow bill (HB-1334) did not come from Texas Parks and Wildlife game managers. It was written by Representative Mark Homer. It was originally intended to let folks 65 and older use crossbows in bow season, in lieu of conventional bows. He later amended the bill to remove all restriction and allow it's use by anyone in bow season. I sent an e-mail to his office suggesting such an amendment, and I guess I wasn't the only one. The bill was defeated, not by P&Y, but by crossbow's long time adversary in Texas, Lone Star Bowhunters Association.
Doesn't change the end result because crossbows are still only available to the handicapped in bow season but, as long as we're demanding truth and fair play, we ought to make sure OUR facts are correct. ;) |
RE: Crossbow Statistics
Arthur,
You are correct, the bill was put down by the Lone Star Bowhunter's who are part of Pope And Young's North American Bowhunting Coalition. |
RE: Crossbow Statistics
Did not know they were in the coalition, 10pt, but it doesn't surprize me in the least. And it really didn't change them a bit. LSBA has been very political and rabidly anti-crossbow ever since the org was founded, many years ago.
One of the last good things they did was manage to stop the State from putting in what they called a Youth Rifle Season. This youth rifle season was originally to have been each and every weekend of October, and October just happens to be all the archery season we've got down here. They managed to get it contained to only the last weekend. Which basically leaves Texas bowhunters with only 3 weekends that can actually be called 'bow season' Texas has been actively trying to do away with our archery season and include October into the general season for years now. So, frankly, LSBA is being more than a little stoopid about crossbows. We could use some more numbers on our side or we won't have a bow season to fight over for much longer. [&:] |
RE: Crossbow Statistics
The MI Bowhunters are on the verge of ruining their own season. The MI DNR is looking to add a one week gun season in the middle of October in zone 3. Reason being, the archers are not killing enough deer.If they had just allowed crossbows in archery, they most likely, they would not be facing intrusion from firearms into the archery season. The same thing happened to MN last year.
