Quiet Down Crossbow
My dad just bought a crossbow. Were out shooting it the other day. Fairly impressed with the shooting at 20yrds. Seemed to "snap" a little on the tigger pull though. Any ideas of how he can quiet down the crossbow? Strings silencers? or Dampeners? this thing is bare bones as of the moment with just the red dot scope on it.

RE: Quiet Down Crossbow
It seems that alot of folks use cat whiskers with good results. When I first tried them, I put them about where I would on a verticle bow and they flew off(violent shake on shot) with only a few shots. Now I have them out toward the tips of the prod. or bow (I have a recurve crossbow) on theloop serving. The silencers haveheld up to about 500 shots so far and have quieted down my crossbow quite a bit. Probably lost some speed but I'd take quiet over a few fps anyday. Hope this helps. Grndhntr

RE: Quiet Down Crossbow
Check out a few Ye old archers website, they have an STS string dampening system for your crossbow that really helps quiet the bow. Around $50

RE: Quiet Down Crossbow
So far from what some have played with on here is the cat whiskers served on close to the tips and the newer STS systems seems to make the biggest difference. But, trying to compare it to the sound of a vertical bow is a challenge, you ever make a CB as quite as a vertical and you will be rich!!

RE: Quiet Down Crossbow
I shoot both...and I miss that silent compund compared to the XBow, but I still love my XBow...maybe it something we should think about a little and get rich.
