Call to Action!
All right folks, the time has come when we need some people to step up and help new states gain some crossbow freedom. This will require people to go to meetings, do some organization of information and people and making phone calls and emails. We would also like to start some state chapters of the American Crossbow Federation. The States we need to concentrate on to start with are Michigan, Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi. You do need to be a resident of the state you are working on.
If you are interested in taking up this challenge and helping out in one of those states, please let me know and I will get you the information you need to get started! Randy |
RE: Call to Action!
What can we do when we already live in Ohio?

RE: Call to Action!
At this point, the ACF will be concentrating their limited resources on states that are looking seriosly at adding the crossbow. I do think we will be setting up a state chapter of the ACF here in OH.

Randy, that's great! Just want to add a thought for y'all to consider. Right now, there's a guy named "Kurt" in Wa and one called "Pa Bowhunter" in Pa looking to get the ball rolling in their states. I realize the ACF's resources are limited, and I have sent both the pdf file you sent me awhile back [thanks again] but maybe some help and guidance/info can be sent to these folks? Btw: great article you wrote in last issue of HBM!

Dan,
I just found out that OK has a 55 and over in process as well.Getting to be a busy year! I am working with Dan to get a start up packet ready, but once again, resources and time are limited. We are trying to hurry that along though. Glad you liked the article. This next one I like a lot better. Randy |
RE: Call to Action!
They just started an xbow org in NJ. Guys are stepping up in alot of places. I just thought maybe even in the states that aren't current hot spots, local state wide orgs that form as they can would be a boost for their battles yet to come. Know you guys and DJH will handle it.

RE: Call to Action!
Sure wish they would get rid of the ridiculous age requirements. In the last 10 years hunting has lost over 2 million hunters. This is due in large part to lack of interest by young people. The fact is: crossbow hunting is a fun and exciting way to hunt. Every archery range I've ever been to that allows crossbows to shoot along side verticle bows the people the most interested are the younger folks. They are the ones down on the crossbow lanes checking out the bows, asking to shoot them, and are generally impressed. The stuffy OLD vert guys show little to no interest in them and yet, these are the people legislation always seems to cater too. We already have a bunch of old-guy hunters we need to be doing everything we can to add excitement to the sport and attract more younger hunters and women. I firmly believe crossbows would help do this.

RE: Call to Action!
We could do with some organization here in California..this state is really getting weird about hunting in general no matter what the weapon is. It is not legal during the archery season for any big game with a crossbow, in the regs right now 07-08 it is legal for hogs and deer only, maybe bear real soon, but that's it, there is a permit you can obtain for archery season if you have a arm impairment of 90% or more.
We are considering moving to a more hunter friendly state pretty soon, hunting hogs here is great, but that's about it.Hog hunters out number deer hunters here in California, at least this is what DFG is reporting. We have to argue hunting in general here...just not crossbows...this state is just full of anti-gun, anti-hunting wackos. Can't wait to leave within the next year...The DFG here just made cut backs eliminating 38 warden jobs, and some other DFG positions,so instead of going forward they are traveling backwards, as usual...When cut backs come here in Cal. our Guvenator starts with DFG...its just a sign here that they really don't care about outdoors in general, much less if your able to hunt with a crossbow. Young people here in California are really missing out on hunting not to mention the different types, gun/bow/crossbow. |
RE: Call to Action!
The OK House just passed the 55 and over bill 91-0. Now it heads off to the Senate. Looks good so far. If you live in or hunt in OK, make a phone call to your senator to voice your approval of the bill.
