Propane catalyst heater in a blind?
Anyone know if these things emit any odors I should be concerned with? I have the Coleman style tent heater.

RE: Propane catalyst heater in a blind?
I have used the sport cat and have never noticed any smell, but then again, my mose is not as good as a deer's.
BUt if you look at it this way, you will most likely only going to use it on cold days, the pop-up blind will become warmer then the outside air, any air that escapes from it, scent included will rise quickly because it is warmer. The faster it rises into the air, the less chance the seer will have to notice any scent, including your body odor. Some people have said that deer can see differences in heat waves, well I do not know about that but many people use heaters and have good luck. |

I think Tom is telling you not to fart in the blind.

I am useing a Mr.Heater(the small one)safe to use in a blind,tent,etc.
there hasnt been any order, etc.and have used it in the trailer I use up at the place,Bought it at work,Lowes, and they just dropped them to 69.00.You can use the 1 lb bottle or buy a hose kit and use a 20 pound bottle,it has made my camping and hunting a lot easier!:D |
RE: Propane catalyst heater in a blind?
I have one and love it, I do not think it affects the deer at all. Mine is the buddy heater model. If the wind blows much you have to keep it right next to you, but it feels good to have on cold days.

I looked at the small Buddy heater at the sport shop the other day..69.00,you can use a bottle witch they say will last 4-6 hours or you can get the hose kit and use a 20#tank....Has me thinking, could use it in the Icehouse insted of the sunflower heater.....would give me more room inside thats for sure.

my uncle says the small tanks freeze over half way down on the outside and stop emmiting propane? i dont know i've never tried the little heaters like that i just set up a ground max blind 6x6 square 67" tall has great tie downs at the hubs on the walls>gonna need those windy as hell lately here every week seems,speed..........

RE: Propane catalyst heater in a blind?
speedball the outside of a propane tank will frost up in the extreem cold. When below freezing, the tank will frost up to the level of propane inside the tank. THis is an easy way to find out how much propane is inside the tank. I have used many small tanks in well below freezing temps with no problems. BTW, this frosting on the tanks happens to all propane tanks, not just smaller ones.

I also have the little bubby heater I use in a blind it keeps me and the kids warm and the deer pay no attention to the odor if there is any. I know the emit carbon monoxide but unless your in an air tight enviroment you should be fine.
