Targets and Broadheads
 

I've been shooting my field pointed arrows for target practice. I haven't shot broadheads at my target yet because I have such a hard time pulling out the field points (I use an arrow puller) that I'd think the mechanical Broadheads would be destroyed when pulling it out of the target. I need to practice with broadheads but at the price I'm not sure what to do.

I use Grim Reaper Broadheads.

Any help or suggestions would be a great help.

I spray my arrows with silicone, some guys use furniture polish or wax. Some mechanicals can be shot into foam targets. Some come with practice blades or heads and the Wasp Jackhammer can be tied up with dental floss. You might want to conact your broadhead manufacturer to find out what they suggest.

try a Rineheart 18-1, kinda pricey but works great, w/ either type point.

I'll have to try one and see how they hold up to extreme speeds. I'm finding out that finding a target to withstand the extreme speeds of my bow is a challenge in itself. [>:]

I bought a Crossbow King broadhead target and it is holding up well for me after a 100 or so shots. For $39.95 I don't expect it to last forever and if I get a couple of seasons out of it I will be happy.It will stop an arrow out of my Exocet at10 yardswith no penetration out of the back of the target. The arrows aretough to pull so I would recommend an arrow puller. It can be done by hand but it takes some effort. This target is NOT for field tips. I shoot my field tips at the club and when I want to shootbroadheads I bring my target or shoot in my basement (10 yards, no kids.) I did shoot a field point tippedarrow into the target ( I knew I wasn't supposed to but I did it anyway.) I didget the arrow out of the target but it was tough and definately not worth the effort. I don't think that you can ask for a better broadhead targetat that price point.

Good thread. I just start shooting myVortex at a target block I bought. Thebolts from 10 yards go into the block just about to the feathers. If I put silicone or wax, will they go in further? Also, they are extremely hard to pull out usisng a practice tips. If I put one of those razor 4 cutting tips, will they go in farther? How do they come out with the four back ends? Any suggestions wouild be great. Gimphunter - sorry to barge into your thread but maybe this will help you too.

No problem. We're both having the same problem. I paid $55 for a crossbow block target and from 20-40 I have to grunt and grown using a arrow puller to get them out. I'm afraid I'm going to break an arrow. There has got to be a better mouse trap out there.

I went to the link for the Crossbow King target and read more than a few people commenting on them. This target can apparently also be tough to pull the arrow out of it. It also says it's not for broadheads.

What a great bunch of people we have here.

He gimp, you using the one that says easy one hand removal? That is about a joke IMO. On my block target I would have to lay on its back and put one knee on it and use two hands. The target will get better after time, but as it gets better the arrows go in deeper. If you hang your target so that it swings, the swinging action will help absorb some of the energy so that the arrows do not go in as far. It helps some, but its another thing to build or have laying around.
