Yesterday morning I ******ed one of my hunting buds who has some pretty good health problems into one of my honey hole stands. Took forever to get him out there and up the tree and I had to put in a couple of extra steps just for safety. I handed him up his stuff. It took forever to get the quarter mile thru the woods to my ground blind and I sure felt like I was running late.

I put down a couple of James Valley scent trails out from my 20 yard marks and set off one of those silly "Buck Bomb" things that have been like gold to me. I sat backhoping my bud would at least see something to get his blood flowing.

At about 6:30 I heard the no mistaking sound of a deer walking in my direction on my blind side heading RIGHT for the Bomb. I grabbed my bow off the hookjust as he came into view and he looked right at me. I thought I was done but he looked toward the bomb again and gave me a slam dunk broad side 15 yard shot!!He bolted and ran full out for 30 yards and crumpled. I reached into my pack and pulled out my thermos of coffe and said to my self "What the hell just happened" .

The pics don't do it justice. This guy is a hog and I hope to weigh him today. Great mass and has a head like a bull.

PS... My buddy hit a doe pretty good. It needed some time though so we are heading out after hefinishes a morning hunt. I put him in another great place!!

Got you on the ropes a little bit with that one Mike..Give me a couple guesses on score will you guys. Never scored a deer but this guy was just a major bull that pretty near killed me pulling him thru the woods with my not to spry Pal..

It's funny that I was over the other side and guys were posting about "passing" on 125-130and 110-115 class deer. I just can't even imagine letting a 130 walk. Guess I need to work on my QDM or move to an area of much higher quality bucks or maybe thats the same thing..

IS there anyone in this forum seeing so many big deer he would have passed on either of the bucks I thumped in my best season ever.I know there are exceptions but I think alot of guys claim to have seen BIG deer who really saw squat.

PS for Mike/Smoke. I bought 6 of the old Rockets and went to Wally World and bought 3 of the new ones made by TrophyRidge. The ferulle on the TR has alot more threads but thats the only diff I could see. I bet cha there gonna shoot just as swwet @ my comfort zone..

Just a couple ball park guesses on score please guys. A big ATTA BOY and a hunting secret to the guy that comes the closest

Planter ,thats a great buck. I'd guess he'd score around 130, but again
hewill score pretty good. Congrats again.

I will say aroune the 128 mark pic's are good but in person is better fer scoring.

Planter, Great buck. You da man! But, what I am impressed with the most, is the fact you took the time and trouble to help your friend get in a good stand and was pulling for him to score one. That's very noble of you planter, I'm proud to know ya for that. Good going man.
On the scoring thingy, I'd say at healthy 122 and that's being conservitive. Great buck none the less.

Congrats John! That buck has some good mass too! Glad to here you help someone out and you was able to connect on a great deer! Sounds like we are all tearing it up in the last week or so! It's good times guys!!

Sounds like the big hunter in the sky rewarded you for helping out your friend. Great deer. Have no idea on the scoring and to answer your question we have not been seeing many big deer on our lease. It has been really hot and just started cooling off in the past 3 weeks or so. We had a bunch of young uns out for the youth hunt and we only took 3 deer.......

I think the fact I helped my bud out got the approval of the deer gods.

We enlisted help but never found the doe he hit. We had great blood and bumped her out of bed but I could not convince him that we should come back and NOT keep dogging a wounded deer. He was too excited to listen to a little common sense but I know he had a great day. He also missed a 15 yd shot on a yote.

I'm gonna work a little more with him. I have a few great stands I have not even sat yet which is amazing. If the wind drops this afternoonI have a big pop-up blind I can get him into where I found a couple of great sheds right out the window. The good part about this stand is that I will have to go and bring him back out. That way I can make him sit until it is as dark out as my wifes heart....

Gonna take him out monday tooand put him in another tree. I have a place .25 miles away where I can hunt Yotes with the rifle. They think their gonna be snacking on gutpile but I'm thinkingsomething different.

Its hard for alot of guys to learn this. It only took me a couple of next day track jobs to learn to sit tight Give him time and keep working with him. He will come around after time.
