Arrow Retention Spring
 

On my Excalibur Vortex the arrow retention spring is now so tight to the deck that I have to lift it in order to mount a bolt. Previously it was easy to slide a bolt under it. Nothing has happened to the CB that would cause this (i.e. dropped or damaged).

Does anyone know why this would happen and what the fix might be?

Any possible assortment of things could have done that. Setting something on top of the spring could even cause it, but no problem. IF you feel that it is too tight, just adjust it slightly to get the tension you want. The same if it is too loose, just tighten it up a little. To adjust it a little looser, just lift the spring until you get what you want (a little at a time) and to tighten it up a little, slightly bend it downward until you get what you want (again a little at a time).

When I have had to adjust the springs before, I just used my fingers. I felt that you would have better control on how much pressure you are applying to the spring. You can use plyers, but be careful you do not go too far and then have to tighten it up again. It is not that difficult.

Been there, done that, more than once. what probably happened is you pulled your rope cocker or stringing aid over the retainer and bent it down. Excal calls for about 1/4" gap between it and the rail. Like Tom said, just tweak it up some. you are lucky it's low rather than high and too loose. To correct too loose, you have to take the scope and mount off to actually take the retainer off the bow or get to it to get enough leverage to tweak it back down some, not a major problem, just more time consuming.
