125 GRAIN BH's
 

Fast question fellas......I have about a dozon of new 3 blade bh's that are 125 grain. OK , I'm shoot'n laser 2's with brass front inserts , 4 inch vanes out of exocet 200. These 125's are shoot'n right on at 20 and 30 yards.....and inch and a half low at forty yards.
Am I shoot'n way to heavy for deer....or am I hurting the bow or string any by shooting so heavy ?
I was shooting MUZZY 4 blade 100 grain....but darn , these 125 grain bh's are shoot'n " rite on " time after time. Yes , I can tell they slowed the fps down a bit being heavier.
Any input for ole BOB here ???

Sounds like the ideal set up to me. I'd rather shoot a heavier set up. Your set up is easier on the bow and string too. I'd rather hit a shoulder with an office desk going 2000 ft/sec rather than a pencil at 3500 ft/sec.

nothing wrong with a heavier setup if they fly well. like don said it's easier on the bow. as far as i'm concerned for a hunting setup whatever it takes to fly a broadhead straight and true...... good luck.:)

A higher weight broadhead will give you a higher FOC balance. There is data out there that supports a higher FOC, I think DNK has the link to the site the gets into this. A heavier head will give you more KE and a better chance of passing through bone if you may hit it. Going heavy is ok, I just don't like seeing guys trying to go to light.

Sounds great to me , i am a log man myself![8D]Yup anything under 450gr. is a real light weight and speedster.[:o][&o]

Sounds to me like you have a set up that will penetrate VERY well.
I'd stick with it.

Weight changes: Lots of experiments and reading says you can figure 1 fps for every gr weight change, up or down. When Bill T. shot the elephant w/ Emax w/ 900 gr arrow setup, he got about 250 fps. 900-350= 550 gr/5= 110 fps less than advertised 350 fps for stock bow, fff, and stock arrows [350 gr] I know the math here ain't quite right, but that's ALOT of gr difference.

Thanks fellas for the positive info on the 125 bh's.....yepppp , I'm gonna leave them on , not too much of a choice if they continue to fly that well. Guess if it ain't broke , don't fix it kinda deal.
The reason I did switch , well my MUZZY 4 blade 100 gr just were not flying true......they would just go wild for no reason....and thats with the xbow being benched . Out of ten shots at say 30 yards , shooting only the same two arrows with the MUZZYS......they would randomly be off , some times off by 9 inches or so....then they would group well , then way off again.
I've been a fan of the MUZZY's for many many years , and used them with my compound , never a problem. But they just don't like my xbow.
