Eyeballing distance.
 

I have a Nikon 440 rangefinder that no longer works. I'm gonna send it back, but in the mean time I was just wondering if you guys have any hints on estimating distance. Prior to getting a range finder I was pretty good but I seem to have lost the knack.

I will admit I am pretty much a no go in that area. I always take a long tape out and set up my radius from my stands and blinds. I try to set up my 20 and 30 at 9,12, and 3 o'clock. Have thought about getting a range finder since I am planning on busting some long range coons this year, But I have got the green light from the wife to get a DVD Camcorder so that is what is next. Hopefully you guys will have some good flicks to watch this fall!

Every shotI take in my part of Ar. costs me roughly $8.00. $5.75 for a Miller Killer and what ever tip I have on, blunt, grappler, Slick Trick. They all end up junk. So......... I range every shot, squirrel, rabbit, deer, ect. Don't mind payin the freight but wanna eat something for the shipping cost, lol.

I just pace off to area of game sighting so i know prior to shots.

Jason... If my ball and chain was gonna let me get a camcorder that is sure the route I would go. Good woman you got there.
Dan... What rangefinder are you using. I sure thought my Nikon was gonna last more than a year..
I got to know though Smoke old fella.. How do you get the deer to stand still when you pace the distance?? You good or just a real sneaky redneck. LOL.

Cheapest pos I could buy, Bushnell Yardage Pro, $139 at Mal-Wart. Put one thru 1200 ashots on Emax w/ prototyperf mount [no rubber] no problems, til it fell off of Phoenix on back of atv in La, lol. go figure!!

I use a Ranging optical rangefinder. My model measures out to 70 yards and is accurate. No batteries needed!

I have one Pin set at 30 yards.If a Deer is close I aim low,ifI figure it is over 30 yards I aim a little high.

Never has let me down on Deer.My wife says Bolts and Heads cost too much to be shooting anything smaller.$15 a pop and being on fixed income I can see her point.
