Quite witty there, Pydpiper.

Point is, there is plenty of information out there, only a Google search away. For you few guys to want to sit here and avoid it, ignore it, or try to falsely deny it is totally absurd, foolish and blatantly disengenuous. It's not going to go away just because it's 'inconvenient' for your narrow minded view of the crossbow issue. You're going to have to deal with it eventually, whether you like it or not.

It's part of the history and culture of the weapon! If you love crossbows, you should embrace ALL of it, not just the little bits and pieces that fit so easily into that little niche you guys are wanting to fill.

I just can't figure out if you are calling my views narrow or you are just painting with a wide brush. If that it aimed at me then you may want to go back and re-read my post and try to let the part about me enjoying the art of long distance shooting sink in. Again, my post was about a casual readers point of view, not mine.
Being able to step back and look at this from a different perspective is fairly important to our sport and how we present it.
It wasn't my intention to go to battle with anyone over how the context of this thread can be manipulated, but the last few posts sure do prove my point.

This old horse keeps rising from the grave to get beat to death over and over. So far, it's been on Excal and At several pages each. The info came from an Italian site. They can't hunt much over there. It's really two different topics, target shooting and hunting. The anti crowd does not deal in facts and figures, but rather emotional rants, usually prefaced w/ "My brother-in-laws neighbor";"A guy at our club"; yada yada. Future users looking for info are not going to be misled, 40 yds and under is everywhere, and most prefer 40 feet.

I hadn't realized this was such an old topic since this is the only crossbow forum I take much notice of and this is the first time I've seen it. Sure has been an informative discussion though.

Relax Arthur and David.. I really can see both of your views, but as long as religion and politics are main forum topics pretty much everything is fair game.
This is a crossbow forum and the thread was about crossbows. It's not like we have subvenues for every possible aspect and my initial post made it clear that I WAS not entertaining 110 yard shots but if I want to see unethical shots with a vert bow all I have to do is turn on the idiot box and watch those guys fling 50 yard arrows.
More inportantly, where do I find out about "BOO" strings?

Quite true, Planter. Your post was about shooting at TARGETS and had absolutely nothing to do with hunting. There is NO maximum ethical shooting limit for TARGET shooting.

I dunno... Maybe I'm wrong to expect the average person to have the intellectual capacity to be able to divine the difference between TARGET archery and HUNTING archery. Even I can do that and I'm certainly not a Mensa candidate. In a nutshell:

Target archery is seeing how far you can get from a target and still hit it. Bowhunting is the art of getting close enough that you can't miss.

It don't get no simpler than that!

What's really disappointing to me is how some folks feel we have to engage in subterfuge and deceit, to deny the one in order to advance the other. "Don't let the whole world know what you're doing." That just goes completely against my sense of rightness.

And I owe you an apology for hijacking your thread. I'm sorry.

That was really well said Arthur! I totally agree with what you've said except the apology. I think your post puts a period on this thread as far as intellectual input goes, no appologies needed because that wasn't a hijack.
I think I'm out of popcorn! LOL! I hope I ran out just in time for this thread to die.
Maybe its just me but did anyone smell a troll?
