String Stoppers
I noticed while flipping through my Cabela's and Bass Pro books that some crossbows have them little stoppers (don't know the actual name) to stop the string when fired.
What purpose do these stoppers serve? Do they quiet down the bow? Gain any FPS to the bow? I measured on my bow yesterday and see that my string goes 1.5" past where the string rests when its fired. |
RE: String Stoppers
They are there to get your atttention by looking "cool" They do very little, other than slow the string down a tad. Usually didn't last more than 10 shots on my 300+ fps bows. Waste of $.

RE: String Stoppers
The "string stopper" allows you reduce your brace height(to increase arrow speeds), prevent the string from hitting the riser (reducing noise and prevents string damage from impacts to the riser) , lower string noise but snubbing string vibration and to allow for a "cleaner" release of the arrow.

RE: String Stoppers
Ooops. My bad. I read your post to mean the string leeches. The little rugger gizmos that go directly on the string and (supposedlu) silence it.

RE: String Stoppers
I haven't seen what you're talking about but I just added a couple of Sims Vibration Recurve Limb Savers to the inside of my Excal limbs near the ends where they barely touch the string in the uncocked position.
May have slowed my speed down a littlebutdefinitely helped with the noise. Saw "Uncled Ted" Nugent do this with a recurve and decided to give it a try. xbowbarry |
RE: String Stoppers
You can see them on the Horton Legacy, and thing I saw them on a few others.

RE: String Stoppers
i put the sims limb savers on my exocet. does helpdeaden the sound and vibration a bit (not much though). costs4 fps. not sure if i'll leave them on.?????

RE: String Stoppers
Those using the Sims Crossbow kit, are you using both the limbsaver stick ons and the string silencers?
I have a cheap steellimb model I'd like to try them on it really hasa twang now. |
RE: String Stoppers
i'm using the fleece string silencers. the string leeches don't last 5 shots before flying off. hehe.:)

RE: String Stoppers
I bought the Horton noise killer pack and it helped quite a bit on vibration. The string silencers have stayed put so far. They are the new design. I couldn't tell much difference on my poi. But I'm sure it slowed me down at least a little. I resighted prior to installation anyway. So I'm gonna go with it as long as there are no problems. I feel it was worth the 20 bucks.
