Newbie needs help on choosing 1st crossbow

I've been looking alot online and would like to know some of you experienced crossbow hunters opinions.

Which of the following crossbow packages would you recommend:

Horton Legacy 175

or

Excalibur 2007 Phoenix

Both are staying under my price range of $500. I've read some good things about both. If I do buy these packages, what other things would you recommend me purchasing? Thanks in advance for your insight!

I'd get the Phoenix hands down. It's a known performer w/ lots of happy owners. The Horton model is new this year. I have both scopes. The Horton one is no where near the Excal V-zone. Check your pm's, one coming!

I own the Phoenix and love it!!! Simple to use, easy assembly/disassembly, fast and accurate. What more could you ask for? Just make sure you order the stringing aid.

Excalibur makes an awesome Xbow and stands behind their product like no other company that I know of.

Have been a happy Horton owner for fifteen years. This year I am a happy Excal owner now too! I think my Excal is more accurate IMO and much more do-it-yourselfer friendly also. The legacy is new this year and being a happy Horton guy that I have been I will say the same thing about it as I have Bow-tech....NEW! I am always leery of buying first run products wither its toasters, cars, or hunting stuff. You could be happy with the Horton, But you can be guaranteed you will be happy with the Excal.
