Broadhead grain
What grain of broadhead do you shoot in your crossbow? I cant decide if i want to go with 100's or 125's this year.

RE: Broadhead grain
The best way to determine that is by the balance of the arrow ;check this out,you will find that by getting it right your accuracy will be at its best, to answer your question you have to calculate the FOC. Lee

RE: Broadhead grain
I dont know much about arrow flight in crossbows but I do know some about arrrow flight in compounds, balance point plays a big factor in it, so does bow poundage, draw length andspline stiffness
back about 15 years ago I was into shooting compound big time and like alot of people I built my own arrows and knew quite a bit about the subject, I cant remember much about it anymore but my setup back then(and now) consisted of 30" 2114's(I forget the overall weight)and with a 55# drawit ended upthat 85gbroadheads gave the best flight and had the best balance, anything heavier and they got way goofy in flight(paper tune), so I use 85g thunderhead's after I spent all the time and money in that setup I realised I sort of messed up though, I should have went with 2213's instead, they're a little stiffer and would have allowed me to up the poundage a little if I wanted without messing up arrow flight, but with my shoulder I have trouble pulling over 55#'s in alot of hunting situations anyway so my setup worksjust fine |
RE: Broadhead grain
I switched from 100 to 125 grain becauseI'm now shooting aluminum xx75's and I need a heavier Broadhead. When I shot Carbons the 100 grain Slick Tricks were hard to beat. Now I'm shooting 125 grain Wasps.

RE: Broadhead grain
I'm shooting 100 simply because thats how my vertical bow is setup and I can buy heads to use for both, but reading the above posts makes me think I should do some legwork and figure out what works best.

RE: Broadhead grain
I use 100's, easy to find and very common.
I use brass inserts to get the extra weight in front of the Gold Tip II, otherwise I would probably use 125's, I like the forward weight. A GTII with brass and a 100 has more FOC than the standard arrow with a 125.. |
RE: Broadhead grain
I use 100 grain MUZZY 4 blade , Gold tip 11's, 4 inch plastic vanes with brass inserts.....I'm happy.

RE: Broadhead grain
Have always used 100 and they seem to fly great. First muzzys and now the Tekan Twos.
