Pydpiper 02-28-2007 07:02 PM

RE: NEW TO HUNTING NET

There are better strings, matter of fact they come from this board, but you need to fix your trigger first.. It is a fairly common problem, there is supposed to be a fix for it with an emery board, it will surely buy you some mileage with that serving. Someone will show you..

Ya know I like you guys so do not take this wrong, but does the Excal forum suck or something? I have only been on there once and was not really impressed but it was OK. But it seems like more and more of you Excal guys are signing up all the time. We all know I have made it clear that I plan on getting one, but was just curious if you guys think this place is alot better then the Excal forum? Seems like alot of good guys are coming over here. Just curious.

Hotburn76 ....... I am not sure about the otherrs, but I know for a fact that I was here on this forum about 2 years before you joined. Digger was as well.

The thing about the Excalibur site is that most of all the members there are there to promote and educate new people into the crossbow world. The more proper educated info that is put forth to new people, the easier it is to counter the UNTRUTHS that the anti-crossbow groups spread. I came back to this site because I had heard that this site had changed from what it was like a while back (back stabbing and personal attacks were common on this forum back then). As long as site is fun to precipitate in, I will stay, if not, I will go to where it is fun.

And the point of saying that was????????

Was not saying my original post to be directed at you it was as I said there was alot of new people with Excal's going this site. I can read and see that you have been here since 2003 and that mine reads 2005. Was just curious as to why the influx of Excal guys. Have been told in PM's by several Excal guys that they do not care for the Excal forum. Just curious as to what the new guys thought of this compared to the Excal site. Try not to be so defensive, I said I liked Excal's and plan on buying one, just wanted some new members opinions. Stillconfused as to why you would point out that you have been here longer then others? Does that make you better?

GrumpyTom 02-28-2007 09:24 PM

RE: NEW TO HUNTING NET

I am sorry that you took it wrong, but what i was pointing out was that excalibur shooters were basicly the members that talked crossbows here on this forum in the early days. Also that the crossbow comunity is small, but growing. people that have knowledge and willing to share should go to as many sites as they can handle to educate people about the truths of crossbows, to fight the non truths that that the anti's are spreading.

You asked what was thought about this forum. It is good, but not as educational as the excalibur forum. This forum seams to have it's threads sidetract easily. And I do not mean a few of them, most of the threads wonder back and forth like a coonversation around a campfire. Is that a bad thing, not necessary, that could be the atmosphere that is wanted, where as the Excalibur forum is more dirrect and to the point. That site I also find to be more techinical in the degree or answers. But again that is the make up of the forum.

That is just my opinion.

You guys are both saying the same thing. This site is more fun than the other. I agree as well. I PM people at the other site a fair amount but I don't post much. Here I post a lot because I like the insults! LOL!
Back to the subject at hand, Welcome John!

Welcome, John!! I have an Emax and they are hard on servings, chances are there is nada wrong w/ claws on your bow. Best bet is to get a serving tool and learn how, not hard at all. Don makes nice strings and you can buy them from Danny Miller for either $9 or$10 depending on type at [740] 483-2312.

RE: NEW TO HUNTING NET

When I first joined Excal it was very information orientated, but that was smack in the middle of hunting season. It is far less technical now, matter of fact it is mostly comprised of bad jokes with a dab of technical info (and a pee in your pants funny story about a roped deer). That is to be expected from any site that grows, it is inevitable when there are lots of people involved, it's the unchangable nature of humanity. What I don't like is how long threads go unanswered, if you read the amount of reads versus replies it is quite sad. Sometimes the old timers just get tired of responding to the same old newbie question over and over, seemingly forgetting that is only old information to them. Newbies should be treasured and welcomed with open arms (not literally, quit looking at me like that) the more we know the bigger we will get, the bigger we get the more attention we will get from the public and manufacturers.

-I don't mean to knock Excal forums, I am active there, but I find there is no rhythm to the board. To call it technical may require someone to read the posts again.. Tye's fat girlfriends is far from technical.
I find this forum to be more of a room full of friends.

I had a Commando, neat lil bow, did some close range good w/ it hunting, but man it ate servings!! Found out after I moved it on that originally there were supposedly two small plastic sleeves on the string for the cocking claws to grab rather than the serving, don't know how true that info is/was, but sometning was missing for sure. Iknow I didn't get more than 30 shots per serving.

Awshucks, was it hard to cock and did you shoot it thru a chrony?

Martinfaw

RE: NEW TO HUNTING NET

Martin: It was my 2nd xbow, the first was a Whammo 80 lber that I mowed yards forever for, lol. The Commando was a big improvement over that, but still left alot of room for improvement. It wasn't that hard to cock, seems like it had a real short power stroke, something like 11-12", was deadly accurate to 20 yds, got my first Robin Hood w/ it. Some guy wrote an article in a back issue of HBM about refurbishing one of them. I never had a chrony in those days.

Martinfaw yes I do have a comando can't remember the speed but thirity yards would probley be about it that my be pushing it.Neet little bow it sure is fun shooting it. If I'm not mistaken it shot about 230 or 240. Take care
Johnny..........
