RE: FLAT NOCK OR HALF MOON?

What type of bow do you have? From what I've been told here by those that know far more than I do about cross bows the Hortons are set up for half moons. It has something to do with the rail being raised at the end. The Excaliburs use flat backs and the rest I don't know.

List what bow you have and I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be able to give you a more concrete answer. Welcome to the forum.

RE: FLAT NOCK OR HALF MOON?

The general rule of thumb is it depends on how the claw releases the string. If it flips up, you use flat , if it flips down [into rail] then it's half moons. To the best of my knowlege, Hortons, Barnetts, and the new Stryker all take half moons, Excal and 10 pt take flat, and the rest I don't know about.

RE: FLAT NOCK OR HALF MOON?

xbows that shoot flat nocks can shoot the half moon w/ nothing other than possibly accuracy issues, but the flat moon xbows may dry-fire or partial dry fire w/ flat nocks. If you are used to shooting flat nocks, you can put any feather/vane in the slot on the rail, but the half moons limit you to just one, and a mistake there is gonna cost ya.
