1st let me say thank you to DNK for the generous offer for the string. As for weather or not this is a good crossbow, let me say that it is absolutely "entry level". I do however adhere to the old saying "I'd rather be known for the shot I made, than the weapon I made it with". I own quite a few single shot weapons. The crossbow has immediate shortcomings (in my opinion). The hand grip is too squarefor any sort of proper hand placement/ergonomics. I took old 1" military style nylon webbing and wrapped the handle. I used a hot glue gun to hold it and soaked the material with 3 coats of varnish to secure it. I did the same with the curved end of the stock, since I have long arms and wanted some additional length to the stock. Since thier is no recoil, the "softness" of the butt stock end of the stock does not concern me. I used 2 round key rings, to attach an old suitcase strap, as a sling (it is black so it looks normal)
The front sight had to go, since I am using a red dot scope and wanted a cleaner look. The scope rings would only fit the upper of the 2 rail ridges, and would sight in great at long distance but not lower yardages. A dremel quickly fixes that problem. The scope not sits almost directly on top of the rail, and sights in great at 20-30 yards. The arrows it comes with are 2013, 15". These are insuffucent in my opinion. I took old 2117's and custom cut them so they will clear a broad head just forward of the rail (now 17"). I will use a 100gr muzzy, so with the added length and weight of the arrow, I should have a sufficient amount of kinetic energy for deer. When season comes back, I will go to a carbon arrow, with a 125gr tip. I should then have picked up speed but maintained my energy due to the larger tip.
Is this crossbow worth the money? For me yes. If I win the lottery, no.
