I have had a Barnett Quad 400 for about3 years. It is one of the most powerfulcrossbows. Have killed a bunch of pigs and deer with mine. Be sure to wax thetrack and string very often. Barnetts do require more care than other crossbows.

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Have had mine about about four months,had a lot of help from people on this site,once I learned more about the xbow it became a lot easier to
work on the few problems that I had,nothing major,awshucks was most
helpful in advising me on questions I had and the only major thing I did
to mine was take it to a friend of mine who is a gunsmith and have him
do a trigger job on the xbow!Went from about 22lbs to 4.5lbs and has
really helped the shooting of this machine!Am shooting 2219 Eastman
arrows out of her and am thinking about trying feathers on a few shafts
to see how the fly,My wife has bought me two dozen shafts and as I tear
one up I am using them to experiment with.With pending surgery on a
tumor under my brain,she bought what we could afford,but after shooting
over three hundred bolts out of her I would buy another one shes doing
ok!After my surgery may look at a Ten Point but will shoot this one for
awhile.So far two does,one coyote,and a bobcat so she does perform!
Have got five farm tags to fill by Jan.15th so the food bank will be happy
to get the meat,like I have said to each his own good luck with your 400
if there is anything I can help you with please let me know!:)

Moose: Don't know if you mean the finger itself is loose and moving or the gap is too big tohold the arrow in position. Neither is much of a problem, just tighten the screws that hold it or take it off and tweak it a little. You should have about 1/4" gap between it and the rail, kinda a common problem w/ brush ect getting in there and bending them up. Worst part is on an Excal you gotta take the scope mount off to get at the screws, most of the time you can't bend them on the bow.

MOOSE48 12-27-2006 04:31 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

EVERYTHING IS TIGHT, IT'S JUST THE GAP IS TO BIG.

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

If you put some heat shrink tube on it (you can put a couple of layers on) it will take up the space and make it a bit quiet.

haveing trigger worked to 4.5 pounds sounds like the ticket. Doe's it do anything to the warranty that you know of?

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Good luck with your surgery Yote! One thing I was curious about is does it affect the safety of the CB when you lighten the trigger? Can this be done on all CB's or only "bull-pup" style? I can see how it could be done on a bull since the full weight of the draw is not on the trigger, but with conventional design styles where all the weight is on the trigger would this affect misfires like on the bear bows? Just curious?

Accord to Bill Fender the gunsmith it shouldnt,he has kept a diary on

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

coyote, shot mine for the first time today! Shot great, I have a retired gun smith down the road from me, scale say's trigger is only pulling about 9 pounds. Would still like to know what it would do to warranty if ya don't mind. Don't know anything about X-Bow's except what I learned hear. YES, still have all my fingers!!! What is the best target to shoot these things into? Can tell ya a normal 3D is not it. Like they say if it aint broke, don't fix it!

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Dnk:

I have had a Quad 400 since they first came out. It is my first crossbow. Had a long learning curve with it. If not lubed often,the string will start to go bad in the center where it is seized. The cables will fray in the groove where they cross. Thestring will fray where it goes around the pulleys.

Killed several head of game with mine. It is now semi-retired. Now hunt with a Barnett Revolution XS.

The trigger on the one I had was far above 9 lbs and was my biggest complaint w/ it. I'm glad you found a good smith Yote. These things are under tremendous pressure when cocked and it would be very easy to get in trouble w/ triggers, so a competent smith is the best route to go. I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty, I doubt they would ever know it had been lightened. Barnetts are w/o doubt the most controversial xbow on the market. There are tons of folks that have never had a problem and just love them. Others aren't as fortunate and don't care for them. I read a post on another forum along time ago from someone that worked for them. He described their products completely and gave numerous tips on which models were the least problematic and which had the best triggers. There were only a few that seemed to have the most problems, wish I could find that darn post! I ended up blowing my Quad 400 up, probably due to too light of arrow weight, but I was getting desparate cause it would not group at 20 even w/ stock B-nett arrows. Not bashing, just a word of warning not to go that route!!

coyote i'm with ya, aint broke(not yet anyhow) fella told my to shoot 2216 arrows, good weight will help the DRY FIRE effect. Was suprised at trigger pull on mine was caught off quard when the first arrow was launched.

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

when I got my Quad 400 they called for 2219,s Iam getting them weighed
tuesday at the gun shop!:)

retiredarmy 12-31-2006 06:22 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Figured I should read the book on this thing. X-bow was bought in Nov, book also call for 2216's Alum. or carbon. Will try both and see which ones I like the best. Or should I say which the bow likes the best. How do those 2219 fly?

coyote170 01-01-2007 02:54 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

I have only shot the 2219's and following awshucks advice about light
arrows and being hard on the bow so am playing with fletching,etc.
they went thru the chronograph at 349 so leaving the arrow size like
it is and am wanting to try some feathers and see how they fly and
will let you know how they work out,deer season is over the 15th so will
start after the end of the hunting season!:)

retiredarmy 01-01-2007 05:42 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Deer season end's here next weekend. Will wait till turkey season to hunt with X-bow, want to get some time behind the string before useing it on game. Try to fiqure out the do's and don'ts...:eek:

awshucks 01-01-2007 05:50 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

If you don't have a scale, you can make one real easy that is far more accurate than you would believe. Take either a wooden yard stick or similar size lath, drill a small hole at 1" and 35" line. Tie a piece of string w/ alligator clip about a foot long thru each hole. Then take a stright pin w/ a foot or so of thread on it and stick the edge at approx middle [18" on yard stick] Fool w/ this until the stick hangs level. Drill a small hole for center string now that you know where center is. Use a baggie on each side to hold the weights. Below are some common items for weights.
Field tip = 100gr [or 125]
Dollar bill = 15.34 gr
Quarter =88 gr
Nickel = 76.7 gr
Penny =38 gr
Dime = 35 gr
You have to be a little inventive, lol. But by using different combinations you can get w/ in a few grains. Just remember to put a baggie on both sides if you are weighing an arrow. Have fun!!

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

Do you make your own Alum. bolts or are you buying them already made?
Want to try alum. have not found them made. Only carbon

mdc71177 01-03-2007 11:01 AM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

I am thinking that I will probably have to get a crank to help me pull back my bow string. I know that they make one especially for the quad 400. Do you have to use one, or do you know anyone that does?

coyote170 01-03-2007 05:48 PM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

mdc71177 I just got a cranker for my Quad 400 will try it Friday and let
you know how it does!I checked with Barnett and the trigger job will
void my warrenty,didnt give them my name,said I should send it back
as they dont have stiff trigger problems,I laughed ,they will make it
right for me,to late now,hehehehe!;)

retiredarmy 01-04-2007 07:24 AM

RE: BARNETT QUAD 400

I use a rope cocker $25.00 or so. Cut's the effort about in half. coyote, like they say, sometimes easier to ask for forgivness then it is to ask for permission. Thanks for the info. Still undecided if I will shoot carbon or alum.
