stupid boyfriend

I just bought a ten point cross bow, and the first thing my stupid boyfriend did was dry fire it. It's been shooting fine, but I just noticed what appears to be a chip in one of the limbs. I can't tell for sure though. I don't know what to do. I don't know if the warranty will cover it because some idiot dry fired it. Also, I can't figure out how to change the battery for the scope. It's a quad 3. Can anyone help?

RE: stupid boyfriend

Well sorry to here that about your stupid boyfriend! I thought the Ten points had an anti dry-fire thing on them? But anyways, if you noticed a chip I would not shoot it and have it looked at ASAP! If you cock it and shoot it again you could be seriously hurt buy some flying parts!! There are two ten point guys on here and one is a factory rep. One is called htoler and is here somewhat regularly, and the other comes and goes, but they should be able to help ya out, I am having a brain fart and can't think of Randy's screen name, sorry. As far as the battery goes I have no idea about ten points. If it is like a BSA, or Horton the knob that you turn to turn it on should be two parts, with the top part being only a sixteenth of an inch think and you hold the bottom and turn the top to get to the battery. But that is only what I know from the ones I have used. Again, do not shoot the CB until looked at and smack that man friend of yours! Tell him no kissing until he fixes the bow!! LOL!! Anyways, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you got a good bow, sorry you have problems. Did you know 10 pt has a forum? Their natl sales mngr is on here some, Randy, aka 10 pt crossbow. I'm sure the answer to all your problems can be found there, I can't help on either. Most of us have done the same thing at one time or another. Dry fires are kinda like crossing the street while reading a newspaper. Sometimes nothing bad happens, but it's a good habit it avoid, lol. Good luck to ya, come back and let us know how you make out.

RE: stupid boyfriend

to change the battery all you should have to do is use a coin in the slot on the battery compartment and unscrew the cap,

so far as the bow being dryfired I would reccomend taking it to a proshop and having it checked out before you shoot it anymore, and would contact tenpoint to see if they will service it and it be covered under warrenty, Randy will prolly chime in on this when he gets back from hunting,

Ok, confiession time, I've dryfired my new Exoct three times! No chips, no fibers sticking out etc. Also, no dumb boy friends! LOL! Time to contact Randy via PM and talk to him. If you don't want to, I or anyone else here will do so on your behalf.
I have a twenty and a twenty three old daughter and I understand you're problem! LOL! If you send him to me I will straighten him out in a heart-beat! Hehehehehe

RE: stupid boyfriend

BTW which Tenpoint did you get?? and did you get it from a local Proshop ororder it from a dealer or what? if you got it from a local proshop I would have them check it out. I did buy a used Excalibur that I belive was dryfired and it shot ok for awhile but never seamed to be right and it got noisier and noisier the more I shot it had it checked and was told it eithier had a cracked or split in the left limb. so definately get it checked better to be safe than sorry..

I have the Proelite which does have the dryfire inhibitor.. but not all Tenpoints have that..

Yeah, I've had two crossbows ruined, because some of my co-workers dry fired them, you'd think working at a shooting range, they'd know better, right?

RE: stupid boyfriend

he has a bow too and hunts.I could`nt believe he would do something like that and then calmly say "what it don`t hurt em" but it takes all types ,I`ve cracked limbs from shooting too light of an arrow so it does`nt always take a dry fire to wreck a bow,but unfortunately mn. does`nt allow me to shoot a crossbow so I stick to a couple of bowtechs,I know archery but I can`t help as much as I`d like with the crossbow. It`s nice to have forums like this.

Miss Archery,
Sorry to hear about your boyfriend/bow. A couple questions to see if we can solve the issue. First, how did he manage to dry fire the bow. It has a dry fire inhibitor. Second, is your bow a ProFusion. I am guessing yes because you mentioned the Quad scope.
Did you notice a change in the limb, or did you just dind the spot after the dry fire because you were looking. it could be something as simple as a wrinkle in the camo film. Better safe then sorry though. If you can get a good digital photo of it, I would like you to email it to me at TenPoint. Secondly, you can gently run a cotton ball or qtip over the spot and see if the limb grabs the cotton on a snag.
Let me know and I will do my best to help you.
Thanks,
Randy

Well I don`t know what a dry fire inhibitor is but he cranked it back and fired it just like that.

Cranked it back? Does it have an accudraw? And I noticed from your signature that you shoot a 73lb BOW? Wow, and I thought I was something special when I could comfortably shoot 55....

JESUS loves archers 11-29-2006 10:48 PM

RE: stupid boyfriend

keep in mind I`m quite full grown,ya the old glory is cranked up to 73#,and the black knight is at 76# as for comfort, the old glory is a heavy bow 9 1/2 pounds to be exact real steady even in the wind and with all the bells and whistles I have on it it`s the most comfortable bow I`ve ever shot. The crossbow has a crank on it if that`s what you meant by accudraw, she has a hard time cocking a 170-175# crossbow

My bow is a Titan. I have acudraw. And I do wear the camo! hehe. This site is so cool. So much info. :)

RE: stupid boyfriend

I just assumed it had the dry fire thing. At least that is one of the points that always gets brought up about an advantage to having a ten point, dry fire inhibitor, and double safety.

RE: stupid boyfriend

Miss Archery,
Are you saying he cocked it back with the Acudraw and then shot the claw? That is a problem, but is not at all a dry fire because the claw weighs way more then an arrow. The claw does not shoot past the riser and can beat up the inside of the riser and/or limbs. Did the cords break when the claw way shot?
Randy

miss archery 11-30-2006 10:37 AM

RE: stupid boyfriend

He didn't use the acudraw, he just pulled it back by hand. He didn't shoot the claw.

Hello Jen. I'm new to the forum. But I guess you know that since you are my cousin as well. HI MATT!! It's me, Marta. hahaha hohoho hehehe.
Here's my advice. Make that boyfriend of yours bring us some wine next time he comes over. And kick him in the nut for dry firing your bow.

I also agree. Its always nice to have more female hunters not only out in the field but on here as well. Hopefully the ladies on here have female friends who always are interested in hunting or already doing so, and eventually joining on the boards :)
